The Raman spectra of LiC1-AICI3, KCI-A1CI3 and CsC1-AIC13 melts in the concentration range 50-100... more The Raman spectra of LiC1-AICI3, KCI-A1CI3 and CsC1-AIC13 melts in the concentration range 50-100 mol.% AICI3 are presented. The melt structure of these systems are discussed in terms of the species AICI4-, A12C17-, AI~C16 and higher polymers. The relative stabilities of the different species are studied as a function of the cation environment. Perturbation of the A1CI4-and A12CI7vibrations due to the alkali counterion is found and interpreted in terms of change of symmetry, force constants and masses. The bridge structure of A12CI7-is discussed.

The infrared spectra of 1,2-diphenylethane were recorded as a melt and crystalline solid in capil... more The infrared spectra of 1,2-diphenylethane were recorded as a melt and crystalline solid in capillary films and as a pellet in KBr and polyethylene in the 4000-50 cm 21 range. Moreover, the sample was isolated in an argon matrix at ca. 5 K, and the spectra recorded in the range 3100-450 cm 21 , before and after annealing. Raman spectra of the melt were recorded between 295 (supercooled) and 357 K, and spectra of the crystalline solid were obtained at ambient temperature.
