This article proposes an adaptive protection scheme to handle DOCRs coordination problem in microgrid having multiple point of common couplings. The proposed scheme consists of two blocks: offline and online. In offline, settings of DOCRs are calculated for most important operating conditions (grid connected and islanded modes) and stored in corresponding DOCRs. The online task is performed based on local and global decision approaches. The local decision approach ensures significant less burden on microgrid central controller. Also, the proposed scheme does not cause any catastrophic conditions in microgrid when a fault occurs during critical situations. Then, coordination problem is formulated as constrained nonlinear programming problem and solved using a symbiotic organism search algorithm. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is examined on 7-bus and IEEE 33-bus microgrids during various operating conditions. Furthermore, simulation results are validated on hardware-in-loop test bed using real-time digital simulator, numerical relays, and CMS-356 (voltage and current amplifier). From simulation and hardware results, it is noticed that proposed scheme is able to provide an adequate protection to microgrids during various operating conditions, various types of bolted faults, and high-impedance faults.

In computer vision and pattern recognition domain, dynamic research is going on in face recognition. Face recognition algorithms are challenged by intra-personal changes in pose, illumination, and expression (PIE). Images are processed and matched with various databases. For face recognition, multi-task learning (MTL) is explored in this work. However, recognition of faces from blur and poor illumination becomes difficult. Recovering face from mixed noise degradation is a challenging and promising theme. This work explores an ensample convolutional neural network (ECNN) for face recognition. Initially a new adaptive morphological bilateral filtering (AMBF) method is proposed. Without introducing undershoot or overshoot, slope of edges is increased for sharpening a blur image. Quality sharpening enhancement is assured by various morphological operations like closing, opening, erosion and dilation with proper size of structure element. In addition to adaptive bilateral filter, mathematical morphology operations are included to enhance the performance. Then a multi-task ECNN is implemented for a main classification task and estimation of pose, blur, illumination, and expression (PBIE) as side tasks. For every side task, loss weights are assigned automatically by developing bat algorithm (BA) based dynamic-weighing method. In multi-task ECNN, balance between various tasks are achieved. Hence, proposed method is effectively demonstrated by the results of experimentation on entire multi-PIE dataset.

Adsorption isotherm relates the gas storage capacity as a function of pressure at constant temper... more Adsorption isotherm relates the gas storage capacity as a function of pressure at constant temperature. In this paper, adsorption isotherm of two dry borehole samples was constructed in the laboratory using the manometric method. Isotherm was measured for two gases, i.e., CH 4 and CO 2 to pressure up to 8.4 MPa. Before the construction of sorption isotherm, coal was characterized by proximate, ultimate and petrographic analysis. Coalbed gas content of these two samples was found 2.29 m 3 /t and 2.75 m 3 /t. SEM images were obtained for the pore size distribution of coal using pore image analysis. Prediction of coalbed methane recovery from CH 4 adsorption isotherm showed that these coalbeds are under saturated. CO 2 isotherm was constructed to estimate enhanced coalbed methane (ECBM) recovery. Volume wise CO 2 /CH 4 sorption ratio was found 2.09 times to 2.75 times respectively. This paper presents the interpretation of isotherm data to find the recovery factor of methane production from Jharia coalfield.

In addition, the nonlinear convection is considered to analyze the heat and mass transfer phenomena of thermal systems, which are performed at moderate-and high-level temperatures. A combination of local nonsimilarity and successive linearization techniques is used to evaluate the associated complicated nondimensional governing equations. This study discusses the impact of relevant factors on the fluid characteristics through graphs. The influence of nonlinear convection parameters on the heat and mass transfer rates seems to be more in Darcy porous media compared with that in non-Darcy porous media.

Research paper thumbnail of Sorption Kinetics of CH4 and CO2 Diffusion in Coal: Theoretical and Experimental Study

Energy & Fuels, 2017

Experimental and theoretical analyses with empirical correlations were framed for diffusion of ga... more Experimental and theoretical analyses with empirical correlations were framed for diffusion of gas species, CH 4 and CO 2 in coal samples from Jharia coal fields, India, considering the intrinsic pore parameters. Coefficient of diffusion (D) and diffusivity (D eff) for single and binary component coal-gas system were estimated by adopting unipore gas kinetic models for gas flow on the integration of Fick's law and Langmuir relation. The rigorous study was carried out in estimating crossover pressure, which is dominant in distinguishing flow regime for two primary types of diffusion-Knudsen, Molecular as well as the transition between two regimes. Investigation reveals that experimental values of coefficients of diffusion of CH 4 and CO 2 in random homogeneous isotropic sphere packing of coal samples are in good agreement with the results of theoretical calculations. For the pressure range investigated, variation of coefficient of diffusion was found to follow dual nature with the stable trend at pressures above 3500 kPa and increasing trend for lower pressures. The practical implication of the investigation for the pressures that are characteristically encountered in the Jharia coalfields is a positive finding for the concomitant recovery of CBM with CO 2 sequestration. Additionally, dynamic relation between sorption-diffusion reveals that the coefficient of diffusion significantly depends on the pore structure and pore size distribution, exhibiting a negative relationship with pressure variation.
