Incorporating active transport (AT), non-motorized methods of transportation like walking and cycling, into daily life is an efficient way for individuals to reach recommended levels of physical activity. Active transportation can also improve the environment by reducing pollution emission when people make a switch from personal motorized vehicles. Smartphones have been explored as a tool to deliver health interventions through mobile apps, especially in the field of behavior change in weight loss and physical activity. OBJECTIVE This study sought to explore the extent of the usage of mobile apps in the field of active transport, both academically and commercially. We want to know if and how much mobile apps are being used in active transport research, as well as its availability commercially. This will allow us to realize the current ...

A method of improving the traditional matrix model usually used to achieve access controls is described. The event-driven model refers to the way a security system ensures that a given user has a valid »need-to« relationship to a given patient. Events are defined as the occurrence of specific data that trigger the creation or the updating of the relationship between the identity of a user and the identity of a patient (e. g., admission, discharge, transfer, prescription, and report). The creation and the deletion of the relationships between users and patients are based on numerous repositories and working lists of patients. This implementation requires an organization of the hospital activities which is able to manage, in a real-time manner, those repositories as closely as poss...

In order to attempt this goal, systems need to perform semantic integration. We propose a pragmatic way to describe the semantics of the elements of a database, based on a bottom-up three steps process: 1. a back documentation of the elements of the system from their description contained in the data catalog of the database 2. a first semantic extension to transform a data catalog into a data dictionary 3. a second semantic extension to create a dictionary of the medical concepts from a data dictionary. This dictionary of concepts can be considered as the final result of "semantic integration". It contains a set of entities directly understandable by the end users. These entities are deduced or built from the elements collected and characterized in the data dictionary. This work re...

Our aim is to implement an efficient system. In this article we make a comparison between the existing system model and the new system that will be set up. METHOD UML has been used as the modeling language based on the 2TUP analysis methods. RESULTS the new system for registering deaths and their causes was conceived and represented through activities, utilization cases and data model diagrams. DISCUSSION We have developed a tool for death registration taking into account African hospitals characteristics. The progressive deployment of this system at the CHUSS of Bobo-Dioulasso enables users and actors to appropriate it.

METHOD The capture-recapture method was used to assess this quality control using the three-sources technique. RESULTS The cross verification of the three data sources (mortuary, admission department, death certificate) gave the following estimations: number of deaths observed: 735, total estimated deaths: 852 [820-900], i.e. 86% of completeness achieved by the statistics generating system. DISCUSSION The ISCD is functional and produces easy-to-cross-check quality data. It could be extended to the entire country for the generation of mortality statistics. Nevertheless, it needs to be improved before deploying across the country.

In 1938, Bachelard, the eminent scientific philosopher, wrote about the need to introduce mathematics into other sciences: hostility to mathematics is a bad sign when it is combined with the desire to directly engage with scientific phenomena. According to Rene Thom, mathematics is the “universal theoretical language”. Lafforgue (Professor of mathematics and Fields Medal recipient in 2002) points out that mathematics notably enables us to produce measurements which are highly useful to cartographers in their approach to analyzing space.

The reference method is the manual method. Our study involved developing a bioinformatics method of interpreting MIRU-VNTR and comparing it to the manual method. For this we used two softwares, namely imagej and Microsoft Excel. Imagej was used to determine the migration distance of the bands and for the measure of size in a base pair. The number of repetitions of 18 markers used was analyzed with Excel macro. The results obtained were: 27% of the results exactly consistent, 16% of outliers generated by the macro and 57% of the results not matching.

To make the right decisions, public health departments need a decision-making system. In Africa few IT systems have been put in place to help managers of public health in the analysis of their multidisciplinary data. The majority of digital health solutions are operational databases, as well, focused on surveillance activities that do not include the laboratory component. This paper describes the design model and implementation of data warehouse for dangerous pathogen monitoring in a laboratories network.
