METHODS A randomized controlled crossover clinical trial was undertaken in thirty volunteers who completed one unique session of two different protocols of interventions apart from a week from each other, in a two-week study protocol. The subjects were randomly divided in to two groups of 15 volunteers; both were assigned to perform board exercise (30 s on the front, right and left lateral boards, with a rest interval of 2 min). The first group performed it on a vibrating platform at a frequency of 30 Hz for the first week, while the remaining participants executed the same exercise without stimulates vibration. In the second week the protocol was inverted. The outcome were surface electromyography (EMG) data for the rectus abdominis muscle (RAM) and cutaneous temperature (CT) of the abdominal region. Normality was accepted, and Student's t-tests were used to compare the measurements for dependents variables (P < 0.05). RESULTS There were no differences in RAM activation and CT between protocols with or without vibration (P > 0.05). CT increased (P = 0.001) after both the exercises with and without vibration. CONCLUSION The results suggest that there were no effects in cutaneous temperature or muscle activation through the use of vibration associated with isometric abdominal exercises.

The ZTPI was tested among a sample of 303 university students. A subsample of 51 participants was then asked to complete the ZTPI again along with another set of questionnaires. The five-factor model of a 20-item short version of the ZTPI showed good model fit, internal consistency, and test-retest reliability. The 20-item Chinese version of the ZTPI also provided good validity, showing correlations with other variables in expected directions. Past-Positive was positively correlated with reappraisal and negatively correlated with suppression emotion regulation strategies, and Present-Hedonistic was positively correlated with reappraisal emotion regulation strategies. These findings indicate that the ZTPI is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring time perspective in the Chinese setting.

Objective: To verify the effect of a physiotherapeutic protocol on the Lower Limb Symmetry Index (LLSI) and the correlation between strength and EMGs, pre and post reconstruction of the ACL. Methods: Twenty subjects (10 ACLrg + 10 CONTg) were evaluated regarding isometric force and electrical activity of knee extensors, knee flexors and hip abductors. Results: A significant increase (P<0.01) in knee extension and flexion strength and hip abduction strength were observed both for the affected limb and non-affected limb. Regarding the LLSI, a significant increase was observed for knee extension and hip abduction movements in the pre-and post-treatment comparison, and between ACLrg X CONTg (P<0.01) for the knee extension movement in the pre-reconstruction phase of the ACL. A very strong correlation (r=0.945; P<0.01) was also observed between the LLSI strength X EMGs during knee extension, pre-and post-reconstruction surgery. Conclusions: Six months after reconstruction of the ACL, there was an increase in strength and EMG activity of the knee flexor, knee extensor and hip abductor muscles, leveling the LLSI between ACLrg and the CONTg, however, with a significant correlation between the two variables (strength X EMGs) for only one of the three movements (knee extension).

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of nonelastic adhesive tape, dynamic bracing... more The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of nonelastic adhesive tape, dynamic bracing, and no-tape/brace on static and dynamic balance during single-leg stance in women's college volleyball. Seventeen young uninjured players (18.94 ± 2.49 years; 1.71 ± 0.05 m; 65.45 ± 9.49 kg; 9.2 ± 4.1 years played; 4 ± 1 weekly training frequency) were submitted to three conditions presented in randomized order: dynamic bracing; nonelastic adhesive tape and no-tape/brace. In all conditions, the center of gravity displacement (total displacement, TD; anteroposterior displacement, APD and mediolateral displacement, MLD) of the dominant and non-dominant lower limb (DLL and NDLL) was assessed using the static and dynamic platform of the Biodex Balance System. The ANOVA (three-way) test with repeated measures was applied, considering a 5% significance level. The results showed no interaction between any of the independent factors in all displacements (p > 0.05). However, there was a significant main level effect for TD (p = 0.001, mean difference = 1.1°) and MLD (p = 0.013, mean difference = 0.30°), with greater displacement in the dynamic level compared to its static counterpart. There was also a significant main limb effect for APD (p = 0.003, mean difference = 0.73°) and MLD (p ≤ 0.001, mean difference = 0.60°), with a higher degree of instability in MND when compared to MD. In conclusion, the data indicated that the use of nonelastic tape and bracing was not superior to the no-tape/brace condition in controlling center of gravity displacement during single-leg stance.

Thirty-one participants (n=31) were randomly divided into 2 groups: an experimental group (EG, n=15), which was submitted to hamstring stretching exercise for 180 sec, and the control group (n=16), which was not exercised. Skin temperature (TsK) was collected in subjects' posterior thigh using a thermographic camera at 7 time points with intervals of 30 sec each: T0 (rest), T30, T60, T90, T120, T150, and T180. In addition, the knee range of motion, passive stiffness and muscle soreness (visual analogue scale) were recorded during the stretching procedure at the same times. The EG presented a small but progressive increase in TsK (30.8°C±0.6°C to 31.1°C±0.6°C, <0.01), with an increased range of motion (<0.01) and muscle soreness levels (<0.01) during the gradual hamstring stret...
