When thinking about Mexico and what it means to be native to it, we think about the simple pleasu... more When thinking about Mexico and what it means to be native to it, we think about the simple pleasures shared: like admiring folk dances, celebrating the Cry of Dolores every year; carrying a picture or necklace of Virgin of Guadalupe since childhood, instinctively adding chili to every food and enjoying the beauty of Mexican colors and music while being at “Xochimilco”. As distinctive from them they might seem, a lot of the traditions were customized or completely shared by the Spanish when they colonized; that doesn’t mean they don’t belong to the country; Mexican nacionality extends far beyond “mariachis”, traditional costumes and “tequila”. It is a merge of many cultures and different lifestyles that led them to what Mexico is today. On the following essay, the most appreciated Mexican characteristics will be explained to know better about the heart of the country.
