Our approach demonstrates how an interdisciplinary team of designers, artists and technologist can exploit the opportunities inherent with "symmetry of ignorance" to solve complex wicked design problems and develop the gestalt generative design methodology. Team members completed a self-report questionnaire to assess the usefulness of the team management and work process for the project.

The goal is to develop improved software and user interfaces that empower users to be not only more productive but also more innovative. Potential users include software and other engineers, diverse scientists, product and graphic designers, architects, educators, students, and many others. Enhanced interfaces could enable more effective searching of intellectual resources, improved collaboration among teams, and more rapid discovery processes. These advanced interfaces should also provide potent support in hypothesis formation, speedier evaluation of alternatives, improved understanding through visualization, and better dissemination of results. For creative endeavors that require composition of novel artifacts (e.g., computer programs, scientific papers, engineering diagrams, symphonies, artwork), enhanced interfaces could facilitate exploration of alternatives, prevent unproductive choices, and enable easy backtracking. This U.S. National Science Foundation sponsored workshop brought together 25 research leaders and graduate students to share experiences, identify opportunities, and formulate research challenges. Two key outcomes emerged: (a) encouragement to evaluate creativity support tools through multidimensional in-depth longitudinal case studies and (b) formulation of 12 principles for design of creativity support tools. As Galileo struggled to view Jupiter through his newly built telescope, he adjusted the lenses and saw four twinkling points of light nearby. After recording their positions carefully, Galileo compared them to his drawings from previous nights. His conclusion that Jupiter had four moons circling it was a profound insight with far reaching implications.

Wireless sensor networks have become an accessible development platform with advances in the convergence of micro electro-mechanical systems technology, wireless communication protocols, integrated circuit technologies, and pervasive and embedded systems. As applied applications for wireless sensor networks in the manufacturing and health industries continue to grow there remains an opportunity to integrate these technologies into gaming and learning applications. This paper will present an overview of the CONSTRUCT/VisM application designed for transforming construction state messages from the WSN CONSTRUCTS Toolkit into a real-time 3D virtual environment.

Constructed Narratives project is a component of the Interlinks research initiative which is exploring methods to design networked context aware interfaces to augment public spaces (e.g. hands-on museums, entertainment arenas, and locations for public transportation.) The primary goal for this network of context aware components is to facilitate discourse, enhance understanding and contextualization of information and shared awareness among its users. Thus providing a catalyst for encouraging communication and exchange of knowledge between individuals.

It describes a prototype application called TextDraw, which is designed to introduce new techniques for typesetting opened up by gesture and tangible manipulation. Previous work explored the implications of tangible-surface interaction in the context of Surface Games; specifically, how the combination of multi-touch and tangible objects can extend the paradigm of board games in new directions.[4] TextDraw also looks toward tangible-surface interaction and the idea that associating functions to gestures combined with new tangible tools will result in radically new methodologies for design, artistic and poetic expression of typographic works. Furthermore, while artworks created with TextDraw are presented, this paper focuses on the introduction / implication of our prototype.
