Information systems (IS) as a consequence, are targets of this change and it can be argued that business IS for the '90s and beyond will be judged against not static but highly dynamic goals. They should therefore, be in a sense `living systems' and offer a level of adaptability. With the environment getting increasingly complex and with inter-organisational information systems (IOS) on the rise-where the IS is not confined anymore within the context that is defined by a single organisation but spans across many boundaries-this will be a significant issue. Utilising concepts from systems theory, this paper considers the issue of adaptability through a number of questions in an attempt to conceptualise the nature that such systems must exhibit if they are to be successful

It is, however, critical that any proposed service framework is jointly developed between the service purveyor and the stakeholders involved. An expected outcome from a focus on productivity in the Service Science arena is that a much closer relationship between the purveyor of a service and the customer is initiated and fostered. This requires a clear focus on the requirements of the customer and the various ways in which the service can be conveyed. This is not too far removed from what is required in other areas such as product specification that should also be carefully crafted from the needs of the customer. The research utilises two case studies to highlight the impact of Service Science as a co-producer of service productivity. We find from the case studies that human factors play an extremely important role in improving service productivity.

Arguing that the act of freezing the user requirements specification during the analysis phase is largely responsible, the raison d'etre of this paper is to stimulate thinking

In this vein, research continuously defines new ways aiming to offer ?real life-like? representations of products and services within electronic marketplaces along with the procedures that accommodate transactions between buyers and sellers. This paper aims in defining an anthropocentric negotiation model.

Drawing from established theoretical work on trust and relationship marketing, this paper synthesises a series of trust constructs, determinant variables and trust building processes, and proposes a framework for the formation of trust in customer-business relationships. The framework is conceptualised in the context of an electronic servicescape, where trust is formed through iterative interactions with promises being made, enabled and fulfilled. Based on this framework, the paper illustrates how the application of agent and virtual reality technologies can provide the environment and facilitate the expressiveness demanded by such a servicescape.

Understanding that information security is not merely a technical solution implemented at each one of the endpoints of the inter-organizational application, this paper presents an integrated approach based on a rigorous multi-level and multidimensional model. Through synthesis and aiming to contribute towards implementing the most effective security strategy possible, the approach has as a starting point the overall business goals and objectives. Based on those it aids the development of a strategy from the lower levels of securing data in storage and transition to the higher levels of business processes. Its use and applicability is demonstrated over ‘Billing Mall’ - a system for Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment.
