How might these differences impact on the development of children's decoding abilities from your perspective? There still appears to be some controversy ...

In the shape of invisible barriers, it defines spaces while simultaneously shaping their lighting, noise, and climate conditions. Despite these unique architectural qualities, little is known regarding the human experience with glass barriers. Is a material that has been described as being simultaneously there and not there from an architectural perspective, actually there and/or not there from perceptual, behavioral, and social points of view? In this article, we review systematic observations and experimental studies that explore the impact of transparent barriers on human cognition and action. In doing so, the importance of empirical and multidisciplinary approaches to inform the use of glass in contemporary architecture is highlighted and key questions for future inquiry are identified.

The experimenter's nonverbal behavior was manipulated in 5 ways (1) no touch, (2) touch several minutes before request, (3) touch several minutes before request by an assistant, (4) touch just before request, and (5) touch during request. A significant 4-way interaction between sex of S, sex of experimenter, touch condition, and Ss' affective ratings of the experimenter was found on the amount of time spent complying. Female Ss complied more for female experimenters who touched them. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)

The first purpose of the study was to replicate the results of an earlier experiment (Patterson, Webb, & Schwartz, 2002) showing that the addition of a smile from the confederate greatly increased pedestrians’ responsiveness. A second purpose was to determine if confederates’ visibility

First, the separate theoretical approaches to nonverbal exchange (the behavioral side) and to person perception (the social cognition side) of interaction are briefly reviewed Next, the relationship between the behavioral and person perception processes are outlined in an integrative theoreticalframework. Within this framework, the distribution of cognitive resources, in terms of attention and cognitive effort, determines the effectiveness of interactive behavior and the nature of impressions formed about apartner Finally, an example of a researchparadigmfor studying the behavior-person perception interface is described and preliminary results reported.
