Beginning at least in the early sixth century in India, a fascinating controversy arose over what... more Beginning at least in the early sixth century in India, a fascinating controversy arose over what is established by Nāgārjuna's refutation of production in the first chapter of his Fundamental Treatise on the Middle Called "Wisdom". It is likely that Buddhapālita (c. 470-540?) stimulated this controversy by indicating that this stanza demonstrates "how this called 'production' is only a convention," suggesting that something positive is also established by this series of negations. Bhāvaviveka (c. 500-570?) responded by emphasizing that in Nāgārjuna's system these reasonings establish a mere absence. In defense of Buddhapālita, Chandrakīrti (seventh century) responded that indeed Buddhapālita "wished to express a nonaffirming negation," thereby agreeing with Bhāvaviveka that Nāgārjuna intended only a nonaffirming negation. Much later in Tibet the tradition stemming from Tsong-kha-pa (tsong kha pa blo bzang grags pa, 1357-1419) put particular emphasis on this controversy in order to detail how, according to it, proper meditation on emptiness requires that the object of meditation be a mere negation, a mere absence of inherent existence. This position stands in marked contrast to many other Tibetan traditions, including that of Tsong-kha-pa's predecessor Döl-po-pa Shayrap-gyel-tsen (1292-1361) for whom ultimate reality is an affirming negation (ma yin dgag, paryudāsapratiṣedha).

Kondisi spasial hunian Suku Bajo di kampung Wuring Kota Maumere dilihat pada karakteristik hunian... more Kondisi spasial hunian Suku Bajo di kampung Wuring Kota Maumere dilihat pada karakteristik hunian masyarakat sebagai kampung awal peradaban muslim dan menjadi pusat penyebaran agama Islam di Kabupaten Sikka. Latar belakang sejarah sebagai tinjauan dalam menggali terbentuknya hunian masyarakat serta aspek geografis, sosial, budaya dan ekonomi masyarakat setempat. Pendekatan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode fenomenologi dengan analisis deskriptif kualitatif dan bersifat naturalistik yaitu menggambarkan dan menginterpretasi catatan budaya Suku Bajo berupa keterangan sejarah, dokumen peta, maupun artefak yang berwujud fisik hunian masyarakat Suku Bajo. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengkaji perkembangan spasial yang terbentuk berupa sistem spasial hunian dan aspek-aspek yang melandasi pembentukan spasial hunian Suku Bajo pada kawasan kampung Wuring sebagai upaya untuk memahami kondisi awal hingga terbentuknya hunian kampung saat ini. Hasil penelitian memberikan gambaran tentang sistem spasial hunian mencakup organisasi ruang, orientasi ruang dan hirarki ruang dalam lingkup mikro hunian berupa konsep ma'bunda-ma'buli. Selain itu gambaran perkembangan spasial hunian berupa bentuk panggung tumbuh dan panggung diaruma yang berdampak terhadap messo lingkungan karena adanya aspek non fisik yang melandasi pembentukan spasial hunian di kawasan kampung Wuring.

Composed by Tibet's great yogi-scholar and founder of the Ge-luk-ba school, it stands as a landmark in Buddhist philosophy. In this first of a three-volume series, Jeffrey Hopkins focuses on how the conflict between appearance and reality is presented in the Mind-Only, or Yogic Practice, School. "The Essence of Eloquence" is so rich that for the last six centuries numerous Tibetan and Mongolian scholars have been drawn into a dynamic process of both finding and creating consistency in Dzong-ka-ba's often terse and cryptic tract. It discusses the usual topics of poetics in an unusual manner viz. Dosa, Guna, Dosaguna, Alankara, Rasa, Drsya and Sravya Kavya. There are many earlier editions of this work, some with even two commentaries. But this alone has an English translation. The text has been exhaustively and incisively edited, without obscuring Bhoja's thought and intent.
