The marked and continuous inequality between men and women prevailed throughout the Middle Ages a... more The marked and continuous inequality between men and women prevailed throughout the Middle Ages as part of their culture, which from our contemporary and Eurocentric perspective, we consider it misogynistic and unfair. However, is it an exclusive thought of sociocultural evolution or were our ancestors already aware of such inequality? The writer and thinker Christine de Pizan will stand out for her quarrels towards the misogynistic and will shine for her most recognized work: The City of Ladies. With the birth of this city-book in 1405, historiography recognizes this work as the hope for all women of the low middle ages and later. Born in Venice and adopted by France, Christine de Pizan creates one of the writings that would prove to be decisive in the Renaissance and later to be studied in current feminism. After developing the main ideas of the author through the play, three key characters are shown to help and comfort her in building the city of women: Reason, Right and Justice. Symbolic figures that are easy to understand thanks to the innovative style of the writer that is close thanks to the description of personal experiences and of other women of great importance as queens or mythological goddesses as illuminating examples.
