The author studies funeral rites of the Syro-Malabar<br> Church are noted for their liturgi... more The author studies funeral rites of the Syro-Malabar<br> Church are noted for their liturgical and theological significance.<br> In this study the author concentrates on the liturgy and theology<br> of the funeral rites in the East Syrian tradition and see how far the<br> East Syrian tradition is preserved in the Malabar liturgy.<br> He shows that the East Syrian liturgy of funeral is indeed a trea­<br> sure house containing the Christian theology of death and the<br> eschatological character of Christian life. These prayers and<br> hymns of the liturgy are presented as earnest appeals to the be­<br> lieving community to respond in ardent faith. The large variety of<br> hymns and prayers for various categories expresses the great<br> concern of the Church towards each and every member. The<br> prayers, hymns and gestures of the liturgy invite the assembly as<br> a whole and the bereaved of the departed one...

Eucharist envisages a substantial conversion of the created world. Just like the bread and wine a... more Eucharist envisages a substantial conversion of the created world. Just like the bread and wine are consecrated, the whole cosmos is consecrated. Eucharist is the most powerful means for vivifying the birth of the true cosmos. Thus Teilhard de Chardin views cosmogenesis as vivified by the Eucharist. This study examines Teilhard's understanding of the essential relation between Eucharist and the ongoing evolution of the universe.

Eucharist celebration focuses on the remembrance of the mirabilia dei accomplished through Jesus ... more Eucharist celebration focuses on the remembrance of the mirabilia dei accomplished through Jesus Christ. The Syriac word exclusively used for denoting the remembrance of God's work is Uhdana. The Eucharist makes also commemoration of the members of the Body of Christ. In the East Syriac Qurbana the Syriac word for the remembrance of the mystery of the members of the Church is Dukhrana. We observe in the East Syrian Qurbana a proper balance maintained between the Uhdana (remembrance of God) and the Dukhrana (remembrance of human beings).
