Approximately, 53 cases have been reported in the literature. The current study reviews and analyzes the clinical and pathologic features of all reported ALs and additionally illustrates a typical case of adrenal lymphangioma (AL). In order to perform the review analysis, a search of the international literature for ALs in adults was conducted. Thirty-eight related articles were found. Clinical and pathological information were obtained for all the reported cases and a database was created. ALs were detected more frequently in women than men. The mean age of occurrence was 39.5 years, while their mean size was 8.86 cm. Fifty-nine percent of ALs were right-sided. Size and localization were responsible for the presenting symptoms, though 30.4 % were asymptomatic. Diagnosis was made postoperatively in all cases by histological results. ALs are rare and benign lesions. They usually present as an incidental finding after abdominal imaging. The diagnosis is made after the surgical removal by histological and immunohistochemical examinations.

Women may after several aesthetic operations start to look alike.1,2 We all see these signs in people of showbiz and around us and they all do not suf-fer from body dysmorphic disorder.3 Although “beauty is in the eye of the beholder, ” we would like to express our concern on the responsibil-ity of the plastic surgeon and how we advise our patients who seek aesthetic surgery procedures. According to our opinion, there are specific issues to be addressed: If a patient asks for surgery that is legal but not ethical, should we operate? What is the limit after which a surgeon should refuse another plastic surgery procedure to a patient? Should we try to persuade the patient to have procedures that will improve his/her appearance but without giving him/her an operated/artificial look? We would be interested in hearing a consensus of leading aesthetic surgeons on...

Recent advances in molecular genetics have enabled the identification of somatic mutations in most types of vascular anomalies. The purpose of this study was to collate information regarding the genetic basis of vascular anomalies. Methods: The PubMed literature was reviewed for all citations that identified a mutation in a vascular anomaly between 1994 and 2017. Search terms included “vascular anomaly,” “mutation,” “gene,” “hemangioma,” “pyogenic granuloma,” “kaposiform hemangioendothelioma,” “capillary malformation,” “venous malformation,” lymphatic malformation,” “arteriovenous malformation,” and “syndrome.” Articles that identified both germline and somatic mutations in vascular anomalies were analyzed. Mutations were categorized by type (germline or somatic), gene, signaling pathway, and cell(s) enriched for the mutation. Results: The majority of vascular anomalies had associated mutations that commonly affected tyrosine kinase receptor signaling through the RAS or PIK3CA pathways. Mutations in PIK3CA and G-protein–coupled receptors were most frequently identified. Specific types of vascular anomalies usually were associated with a single gene. However, mutations in the same gene occasionally were found in different vascular lesions, and some anomalies had a mutation in more than one gene. Mutations were most commonly enriched in endothelial cells. Conclusions: Identification of somatic mutations in vascular anomalies is changing the paradigm by which lesions are diagnosed and understood. Mutations and their pathways are providing potential targets for the development of novel pharmacotherapy. In the future, vascular anomalies will be managed based on clinical characteristics and molecular pathophysiology.

Methods: Medical literature was reviewed by two independent researchers, and a third reviewer evaluated their results. Results: Twelve studies addressing the predictors of interest in cosmetic surgery were finally identified and analysed. Interest in cosmetic surgery was associated with epidemiological factors, their social networks, their psychological characteristics, such as body image, self-esteem and other personality traits and for specific psychopathology and found that these may either positively or negatively predict their motivation to seek and undergo a cosmetic procedure. Conclusions: The review examined the psychosocial characteristics associated with an interest in cosmetic surgery. Understanding cosmetic patients’ characteristics, motivation and expectation for surgery is an important aspect of their ...

The literature review shows that trauma, infection, iatrogenic insults and congenital lesions are major causes of stenosis. Nowadays, rhinoplasty is one of most popular aesthetic surgeries which may have complications such as bleeding, swelling, bruising, asymmetry, obstruction of nasal airways. We present a 30-year-old female patient, who complained about breathing and aesthetic difficulties due to external nasal valve obstruction and nasal deformity. Past medical history showed that the patient had undergone three unsuccessful rhinoplasty surgeries with aesthetic goals.

Methods: Twenty albino Wistar rats, 400 g each, were used. The rats were divided into two groups, A and B, of 10 rats each. At the dorsum of each rat, four pockets (2 × 2 cm each) were dissected, two left and two right of the midline. In each pocket, a 1 × 1 × 1.5-cm silicone implant was inserted. In the two left pockets, only silicone implants were placed (control). In the two right pockets, 0.4 ml of fat was injected around the implant. Animals in group A were killed 2 months postoperatively, and those in group B were killed 4 months postoperatively. The implants were dissected with the capsule and sent for histopathologic examination. Results: The data of the fat transfer group was compared with control in groups A and B. Capsule thickness, neovascularization, myofibroblast layer thickness, and mast cell population demonstrated n...

Using valid and reliable patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) to assess HRQoL from the patients' perspective provides critical information to better-inform care delivery. The BREAST-Q is a PROM used worldwide to evaluate outcomes of breast surgery. This study describes the translation and cultural adaptation process to develop the Greek version of the latissimus dorsi scales and radiation checklist for BREAST-Q Reconstruction Module. Methods Our team obtained permission to use and translate the Satisfaction with Back and Physical Well-Being: Back and Shoulder scales, and Adverse Effects of Radiation checklist of the BREAST-Q Reconstruction Module. The translation and cultural adaptation were conducted according to the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research guidelines. Two forward translations and one back translation were prepared, followed by cognitive debriefing interviews with patients. Results Forward translation revealed no items that were difficult to translate. Back translation resulted in the re-translation of one item that was found to have a different meaning than the original English version. Nine patients participated in the cognitive debriefing interviews and confirmed that the Greek version of the new scales and checklist were easy to understand. Conclusions Translation and cultural adaptation of the latissimus dorsi scales and radiation checklist resulted in the equivalent Greek version, which plastic surgeons can use in Greece to measure satisfaction and quality of life outcomes from the patient's perspective. Level of evidence: Not ratable.

Although evidence suggests a relationship between autonomic dysfunction and atherosclerotic disease, the underlying mechanisms are still under investigation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of ANS to the development of atherosclerosis and vice versa, in human thoracic aorta. Methods: An autopsy analysis from three segments of the thoracic aorta was performed; ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending aorta, using 52 unselected adult cadavers (38 male, 14 female – mean age 64.4 years; age range 19-90 years). Subjects were divided in two age groups (<65 years – N=26, >65 years – N=26). Tissue specimens were macroscopically examined and histopathologically divided into 7 grades of scoring for atherosclerosis (ATHERO, from 0=intact, to 6=thrombi formation). The relationship between ANS...
