For this, remote sensing techniques have been increasingly used aiming at a better and greater decision aid. On the Northwest bank of the municipality of São Francisco, North of Minas Gerais, located in the upper-middle basin of the São Francisco River and where the natural Cerrado has suffered intense degradation in the last 45 years, the present study was carried out, aiming, through the overlay methodology of cartographic images, using the IDW tool of the ArcGis 10.2 software, generate a single map capable of showing the population average of 20 different plant species of ecological-economic interest per collection point. It can be concluded, after the methodological experience that the arboreal specimens that present the greatest potential for sustainable use from the regional ecological-economic point of view, are Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense), Cagaita (Eugenia dysenterica), Favela (Dimorphandra mollis), Monkey Pepper (Xylopia aromatica) and Umbu (Spondias tuberosa).

Yet, most of the efforts undertaken in the United States and elsewhere are largely focused on understanding the demand for such types of transportation and have left aside the analysis of crucial differences in envisaged systems, such as pooled versus single-occupancy vehicles, use of CAVs as access modes to mass transit, and the cost corresponding to different levels of service in citywide systems. In this paper we introduce a new algorithm for modeling pooled CAVs and a framework for integrating this into traditional forecasting models. We also present the preliminary results of an application of the proposed methodology to the metropolitan region of Vancouver, British Columbia. The re...

Research paper thumbnail of Vehicle route reconstruction from GPS data: a map-matching algorithm harnessing open source software

The availability of large sensor-generated transportation datasets has increased rapidly in many ... more The availability of large sensor-generated transportation datasets has increased rapidly in many parts of the world, but it has not yet been fully leveraged by transportation modellers in the USA, Australia and elsewhere. Further, the low quantity and quality of data available for freight transportation planning model development requires modellers to extract as much information as possible from every dataset. On a different note, the general public and decision makers have been increasingly demanding of well-crafted visual depictions of data and model results, especially for GIS-enabled data, but such demand requires outputs of data processing that are not standard in the transportation/freight modelling practice. While GPS data from vehicles has the potential to provide a wealth of data for route choice behaviours, cross-validation of traditional vehicle classification counts, and vehicle movement animations, these areas have yet to be fully explored. In the case of freight modelling, the absence of sufficient data to support modelling makes it even more pressing to extract all possible information from datasets for freight-carrying vehicles. This means moving beyond the use of truck GPS data for simple travel time and speed measurements but rather developing methods to extract highly detailed truck activity data depicting route selection, trip chaining, and stop clusters, for instance. Before these detailed analyses for passenger or freight GPS data are possible, it is necessary to first reconstruct the vehicle routes based on their GPS data. This paper presents an algorithm for route reconstruction leveraging solely open source software, and presents a test case based on bus GPS data for a European city, as currently no truck GPS data is freely available for research purposes. The steps necessary for applying this algorithm to proprietary vehicle GPS data are also presented. OBJECTIVES AND MOTIVATIONS The last decade has seen a rapid increase in the availability of large transportation datasets generated by a variety of sensors such as Global Position Systems (GPS), cell phones, and in-pavement and roadside sensors. This robust data, however, has not been fully leveraged for development of either passenger or freight transportation planning models. Rather, these valuable data sets have seen limited use in transportation planning models as sources of network travel time information or more generally for national level performance measurement programs. In parallel, the quantity and quality of data available for freight transportation planning model development pales in comparison to what is routinely collected for developing passenger transportation models. This is due in part to privacy concerns across most industry sectors, which limits the type and level of detail of data made available. Also, unlike passenger travel, freight movements are the result of complex global supply chains and economic conditions which widen the scope of data needed to accurately model freight movements. Thus, it becomes more pressing to extract all possible information from the datasets that are currently available for freight-carrying vehicles. This means moving beyond the use of advanced datasets for simple travel time and speed measurements and instead developing methods to extract highly detailed truck activity data depicting route selection, trip chaining, stop clusters, and other trip characteristics.

An investigation of the electrocatalytic enhancement mechanisms and stability of controlled electrocatalysts comprised Pt nanoparticles supported on TiO2/C materials was herein performed. The catalysts were prepared by depositing Pt, over the surface of TiO2 colloidal spheres. These materials were then supported onto Vulcan carbon to produce Pt/TiO2/C. The effect of Pt coverage at the TiO2 surface as well as the Pt/TiO2 loading on carbon over their ORR activity and stability were investigated. Results indicate that the control over Pt coverage at the surface played a pivotal role on activity optimization, in which an association between Pt content at the TiO2 surface and ORR activity was established. Designing efficient anode CO-tolerant electrocatalysts is critical in low-temperature fuel cell c... more Designing efficient anode CO-tolerant electrocatalysts is critical in low-temperature fuel cell catalysts fueled either by H 2 /CO or alcohol. We demonstrate that the incorporation of TiO 2 nanocubes (TiO 2 NCs) on Carbon Vulcan supports, followed by the synthesis of Pt NPs at their surface (Pt/TiO 2 NCs-C material), led to improvements in performance towards the electrooxidation of carbon monoxide, ethanol, methanol, ethylene glycol, and glycerol in acidic media relative to the commercial Pt/C and Pt/ TiO 2-C counterparts employing commercial TiO 2. The nanocubes enabled changes in the electronic properties of Pt NPs while contributing to the bifunctional mechanism as compared to Pt/ C and Pt/TiO 2-C with commercial TiO 2. Fuel cell experiments fed with H 2 /CO steam showed that Pt/TiO 2 NCs-C employing nanocubes was resistant to CO-poisoning, yielding superior performance in operational conditions. The results reported herein have important implications for developing electrocatalysts with superior performances in PEMFCs.
