INTRODUCTION' Existing theories a n d research related to creativity in organizations have contri... more INTRODUCTION' Existing theories a n d research related to creativity in organizations have contributed to identifying m a n y of t h e factors in organizations which inhibit or facilitate creativity. But beyond blaming " m a n a g e m e n t " o r "the organization," t h e existing body of knowledge d o e s not s e e m to give u s a n y insight into how t h e s e factors c o m e a b o u t in t h e first place, o r indeed how they m a y be rectified. Attempting to fill this hole, t h e objective of t h e research project upon which this article is based (Wesenberg, 1986) w a s t o s h e d more light o n t h e question: How is individual creativity inhibited or facilitated in organizations? T h e m a i n conclusion w a s t h a t the participants in the project contributed to inhibiting their own creativity in their work organization. Through their actions, they unintentionally colluded in producing a n d reproducing organizational structures a n d a specific organizational ideology, t h e manifestations of which they sirnultanously reported as inhibiting t h e development a n d practice of their creativity. How a n d why this h a p p e n e d is t h e focus of this article.
