To investigate further, a 60-day randomized controlled trial was conducted at Sudha Institute of Medical Science involving 77 participants with abnormal weight. They were divided into control and ACV groups. The ACV group consumed a daily ACV effervescent tablet, engaged in mild exercise, and followed a low-sugar diet, while the control group followed only the exercise and diet regimen. Anthropometric measurements and participant satisfaction data were collected throughout. The analysis revealed significant reductions in weight, BMI, waist and hip circumference, and waist-hip ratio over the 60-day period. Additionally, improvements were observed in abnormal food intake and various digestive issues such as appetite, constipation, cravings, and gas problems in the ACV group. Notably, 56.25% of control group participants and 44.44% of ACV group participants were categorized as overweight. Data analysis was conducted using Microsoft Excel, utilizing descriptive statistics such as mean and percentage. The study concluded that daily consumption of ACV effervescent tablets has a positive impact on weight loss and alleviates issues related to digestion and appetite. These findings underscore the potential benefits of incorporating ACV into dietary and lifestyle interventions for individuals with abnormal weight, suggesting its role as a complementary approach to promote overall health and well-being.

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the type of diabetes that occurs in women at the time of g... more Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the type of diabetes that occurs in women at the time of gestation or pregnancy. Prevalence of GDM is increasing worldwide. Yearly 21 million new cases are reported. A normal pregnancy itself is linked with unique physical and psychological challenges and which is documented by medical fraternity. But no mention is made on psychological complaints specific to pregnant women diagnosed to have diabetes. It is well documented that diabetes is linked with significant distress level because it demands many lifestyle changes and pregnancy itself is a challenging condition. It stands to reason that a diabetic pregnancy will be linked with significant stress. Maternal exposure to stress can adversely affect the health of both foetus and mother. Stress can also affect diabetic management by influencing diet compliance, medication adherence and blood glucose monitoring. Studies also stated that stress can cause hyperglycaemia by altering hormone balance in body. Therefore any action plan for GDM must include proper stress management to obtain a desired outcome. Customised scales are available to measure the stress related to diabetes and normal pregnancy. But there was no specific scale available to measure GDM related stress scale. This study was undertaken to develop a mobile application based specific stress scale for GDM. A new scale called Gestational Diabetes Stress Scale (GDSS) was developed and introduced through a mobile application. This is a 16 item scale. GDSS gives total score and four subscale scores. A mean item score greater than or equal to 3 indicates the need of clinical attention. The total score is used to measure the overall stress level in patient. And the four subscale scores are to identify the possible sources of stress, which means whether the stress is due to emotional burden and/or medication related and/or health care set up and/or due to any economic or social relationship related and thus it allows the health care professional to manage the stress accordingly, thereby the gap in measuring gestational diabetes mellitus related stress was bridged and through the mobile application all the needed patients and health care providers can use it.

Apart from physical limitations and stress, Diabetes adds to economic burden for the patients. Diagnosis of diabetes mostly do not happen at the right time and many live with it till it was explored through the lab tests done when the patient goes for the treatment of some other ailment. This study was intended to look into the correlation between HbA1c and Lipid profile, so as if any correlation exists the same can lead to a decrease in the economic burden as well as can save many punctures done to the body of the already suffering patient using correlation coefficient. Many studies in the past had been done with the same objective and there are mixed results. In this southern part of India, where people are still not so cohesive with the health advisory of going for regular health check-ups after one reaches the age of 40 yrs., it was necessary to understand the correlation between HbA1c and ...

Among them, one of the widely used FDC is montelukast + levocetirizine. This is prescribed for the patients of any age group (paediatrics, adults and geriatric) and used as a long term therapy for the treatment of conditions such as prophylaxis, acute and chronic types of asthma, relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, prevention of exercise induced bronchoconstriction and chronic idiopathic urticaria. It is very essential to check the rational use of this FDC. Generally fixed dose combinations create confusions among physicians, because it contains more than one drug in various doses and it is very difficult to remember all these details and another issue with the FDCs are that the entire FDC cannot be used if the patient is contraindicated to any of the drug in the FDC. And patient specific dose calculation is also difficult with FDCs. There are very less clinical trial data available about the safety and efficacy of this agent. Objective of this review article is to check the rational use of montelukast levocetirizine FDC. To achieve the objective, all the literatures related to montelukast levocetirizine FDC were collected and analysed. The study concluded that some differences are there in the pharmacokinetic parameters of both these agents includes duration of action. In dosing also, levocetirizine dose can vary from 2.5m g to 10mg once daily whereas montelukast dosing is 10mg. Rationality of this FDC can be further supported by more clinical trial data to conform the rationality of these FDC.

Indian markets are flooded with more than 70,000 formulations, compared to approximately 350 formulations listed in the World Health Organization (WHO) Essential Drug List. Studies have indicated that majority of prescriptions in India are of drugs of "doubtful efficacy." To promote rational drug use in developing countries, assessment of drug use patterns with the WHO drug use indicators is becoming increasingly necessary. The aim of this study was to assess the patterns of drug use by using WHO core drug use and complementary indicators. Methods: One thousand fifty-two patients were prospectively interviewed and their prescriptions analyzed according to WHO guideline five randomly selected busy community pharmacies in northern district of the State of Tamil Nadu, South India to analyze the WHO core drug use and complementary indicators using an investigator-administered data collection form. The main outcome measured is patterns of drug use measured using WHO core drug use and complementary indicators. Results: The data obtained showed that, out of total drugs prescribed (3936), only 2.5 % (100) drugs were prescribed by generic name. Mean number of drugs per encounter was 3.7. Use of antibiotics was 22 %, percentage of encounters with an injection was 7.2 %, and the percentage of drugs prescribed from formulary was 99.8 %. Conclusions: Brand name prescribing is dominated even in rural India. There is a need to improve the availability of essential guidelines and key drugs in the stock in rural areas of India. Prescriptions studied were conforming to most indicators of WHO except the number of drugs prescribed & generic name prescription practice, which deviated. In India the healthcare is dominated by private practitioners at the primary level. Prescription practices of the individual community-based clinician needs consistent monitoring with respect to generic name prescribing habits as well as the number of drugs prescribed. The WHO drug use indicator guidelines need to be promoted amidst the primary care clinicians and should not be just limited to hospitals having a formulary. The data collected by this study can be used by policymakers to monitor and improve the prescribing and consumption of pharmaceutical products in Southern India.
