The rice husk residues were milled into particle size of 1.18 to 0.6 mm, plantain peels and gum Arabic as binders at binder ratios of 10%, 20%, and 30% by weight of the rice husk residue. The two sets of briquettes produced were cylindrical in shape with a central hole using cylindrical die (70 mm height × 50 mm diameter) in a hydraulic press briquetting machine at a dwell time of 5 min, under a die pressure of 2.5 MPa. The physical and mechanical properties analyzed were moisture content, relaxed density, stability, durability index, water resistance index and compressive strength. The data obtained were statistically analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at significant difference of 0.05. The test results showed that: the moisture content of the briquettes produced varied from 8.03% to 10.13%, relaxed density varied from 491.46 to 623.18 kg/m3. The...

Research paper thumbnail of Torah-Adonai (תּוֹרָה־אֲדוֹנָה) as the Secret of Isaiah’s Vision of Peace (Isa 2:2-4): An Eschatological Discourse

Faith men of all times cling to peace as God’s cardinal teaching for societal building and stability. Isa 2:2-4 makes the link between the observance of Yahweh’s torah and the enthronement of peace in the society. Using the prophetic ‘far-off’(futurism) and historicism models of interpreting Isaiah’s vision, the study points up the torah as the ( hr'At) secret of peace, the instrument of right judgment ( jP'v.mi) , the foundation of the new social order and as a moral guide, directing people to higher values now and in the future time. Before the law there was chaos and no peace; under the law, it was fractional and half-done peace but under the messiah, whose period marks the last and final dispensation in Jewish division of the times, it is all encompassing peace for everyone. This universal religion of Isaiah’s vision of peace, as the study shows, has the truths and nuclei of torah-adonai as ...

Research paper thumbnail of The Scriptures as God-breathed: Implication for the Authority of the Scriptures

To say that Scripture is “Godbreathed” does not mean that the scrolls fell down from the sky. Inspiration, in this sense, is the supernatural force that moved the sacred writers to transmit what God has revealed using, human language. How does one understand the Bible as the inspired word of God despite the apparent and sometimes manifest inconsistencies that one finds in the Scriptures? Does inspiration imply divine dictation, as taught by the Augustinian school of thought? Is the Bible purely a product of human ingenuity as held by some humanists? Or are we dealing with a confluence of divine will and human ability? This is the problem that this article intends to address. This will be done by applying an exegetical study of the relevant Scriptural passages dealing on this subject.

The central theme of the book is love; it celebrates human love in all its physical dimensions. Its language is love, a language which seems daring and sometimes even shocking, considering its seeming erotic feature. The author provides a teaching on the place of love and marriage in God’s plan of creation. It focuses on fidelity and mutuality in love between the sexes. The author offers a perspective of love not found elsewhere in the biblical writings. The climax of his teaching on love is contained in Sg 8:6-7. Here the poet emphasizes the power and energy of love. He compares the consuming power of love to “a raging flame” (rišpê ’ēš) which no water can quench. He specifies the value of love: love is so priceless that no material wealth can match it.

The ruah is often regarded as Yhwh’s agent in the accomplishment his purpose. Often in the Old Testament, the ruah is said to seize or enter into or fall upon a person. The ruah falling on a person refers to the general empowerment of that person to perform a given task. The ruaḥ plays an active role in the prophet’s ministry. When it is said that the Spirit of God seized or entered a prophet, it means that he is empowered for his prophetic ministry. The role of the Spirit is particularly pronounced in the ministry of the prophet Ezekiel. Ezekiel is often portrayed as a man seized by the in the Spirit of the Lord. The ruaḥ seizing the prophet or entering him (Ezek 2:2) or falling upon him (Ezek 3:24), refers to the power of God at work in him, revealing to him what he is to say (Ezek 11:5)and enabled him to obediently fulfill his commission. Tithing was a hieratic tax instituted as a means to support the Levites who ministered at God’s sanctuary. The Levites were to receive the tithes offered by Israel to Yahweh, because of the service they rendered at God’s sanctuary, and because they had no landed inheritance. The tithe system was enacted as a hieratic tax meant to provide support for the priests and Levites “for the service that they perform at God’s sanctuary (Num 18:21f). The tithes are voluntary; tithable things were products from the land or the herd. The tithe was basically for the support of the Levites who served at God’s Sanctuary. However, it has been observed and sadly so, that some contemporary Church leaders, especially in Nigeria, seem to be laying undue emphasis on tithing to their own financial advantage. This study was, therefore, conceived as a re-evaluation of the concept of tithing and the context under which it developed. The goal is to use t...
