Besides well-known strategies of deflation, Ritz- and harmonic Ritz-based deflation, we introduce an SVD-based deflation technique. We consider the recycling in two contexts, recycling the Krylov subspace between the cycles of restarts and recycling a deflation subspace when the matrix changes in a sequence of linear systems. Numerical experiments on real-life reservoir simulations demonstrate the impact of our proposed strategy. One of the Total R&D missions is the development of competences on advanced technologies, such as Advanced Computing (HPC), Material sciences, Biotechnologies, Nanotechnologies, New analytical techniques, IT Technologies. HPC allows also tackling the challenge in code coupling: both a horizontal direction -multi-physics-, (chemistry and transport, or structural mechanics, acoustics, fluid dynamics, and thermal heat transfer, ...) and in the vertical direction -multi-scale models- (i.e. from continuum to mesoscale to molecular dynamics to quantum chemistry) which requires bridging space and time scales that span many orders of magnitude. This leads to improve at the same time more accurate physical model and numerical methods and algorithms and these improvements of numerical simulations will be illustrated by their application, use and impact in Total st...

It considers both real and complex solutions as the case may be. Then, a coupling of the real solutions provides new non real solutions. This extends the logical evolutions, relative and absolute, beyond R into a pencil of three numerical planes whose nature can be complex, bireal or dual.

An efficient greedy algorithm is proposed in order to extract the class of sparse signal/image which cannot be reconstructed by l1-minimization for a fixed system matrix. Based on the polytope theory, the algorithm provides a geometric interpretation of the recovery condition considering the seminal work by Donoho. The paper presents an additional condition, extending the Fuchs/Tropp results, in order to deal with noisy measurements. Simulations are conducted for tomography-like imaging system in which the design of the system matrix is a difficult task consisting of the selection of the number of views according to the sparsity degree. Most of the time, any given problem (linear or not) is reduced to finding the solution of a linear system. Thus, the possibility of solving large linear systems in a reasonable amount of time using parallel algorithms has cast a shadow on any other kind of computing approach. However, physical problems are not linear in general: they often represent strongly coupled phenomena which inherently resist software parallelisation. Devising ways to overcome or circumvent computational difficulties has been the research core of the Qualitative Computing (QC) group at Cerfacs ever since it was established in 1987, [Chaitin-Chatelin and Frayssé, 1996, Chatelin, 2012a, Chatelin, 2012b, Chatelin, 2016]. In this summary we review some of the reasons why number tools other than matrices may be better fitted for extreme ...

Our method is based on the idea of the enlarged Krylov subspace to reduce communication. It can be interpreted as a block GMRES method. Hence, we are interested in detecting inexact breakdowns. We introduce a strategy to perform the test of detection. Furthermore, we propose an eigenvalues deflation technique aiming to have two benefits. The first advantage is to avoid the plateau of convergence after the end of a cycle in the restarted version. The second is to have a very fast convergence when solving the same system with different right-hand sides, each given at a different time (useful in the context of CPR preconditioner). With the same memory cost, we obtain a saving of up to 50 % in the number of iterations to reach convergence with respect to the original method.
