However the transmission of VLCs also introduces a high risk of error propagation. In this context joint source-channel decoding can be an efficient alternative to the classical approach of separated source-channel decoding. Our paper illustrates this situation with the

Sampling pattern conversion with 2-D FIR filters

The problem of conversion between different periodic sampling structures is of importance in a nu... more The problem of conversion between different periodic sampling structures is of importance in a number of applications related to multidimensional signal processing. For instance in areas of image processing, as multiresolution representations or high definition television, one has to modify sampling structures. For these types of processing finite impulse response (FIR) digital filters offer two main advantages, firstly a strictly linear phase, or a zero-phase, characteristic can be easily obtained, secondly they avoid the stability problem inherent to infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters. In this paper, the design problem is stated for two-dimensional (2-D FIR) digital filters in the context of a transformation, defined by two integer parameters, which allows the conversion, in both directions, from an orthogonal to a quincunx sampling structure, which will be called (L,K) structure. The filter coefficients are obtained after a minimisation of the maximum error in the fr...

Two types of spatial sampling patterns, one with an orthogonal structure and one having a quincunx structure, both related by two parameters, L and K, with integer values, have been investigated. The following results have been obtained: (1) the definition of a family of diamond-shaped filters having an ideal shape for an up- or down-sampling conversion with given parameters L and K; (2) the determination of a set of constraints in the frequency domain and their equivalent in the spatial domain for linear-phase 2D finite-impulse-response (FIR) digital filters; (3) the design of 2D FIR filters with specifications and constraints depending on the parameters L and K; (4) the presentation with a zone plane of the distortion introduced by the sampling pattern conversion for various values of L and K ; and (5) the cascading of two sampling pattern conversions in order to convert a (L1, K1) quincunx structure into a (L2, K2) quincunx structure

In this article, we consider the case where the signaling density is increased such that interpulse interference is unavoidable. Such an interference is minimized when the Gabor family used is a tight frame. We show that, in this case, interference can be approximated as an additive Gaussian noise. This allows us to compute theoretical and simulated bit-error-probability for a non-coded system using a quadrature phase-shift keying constellation. Such a characterization is then used in order to predict the convergence of a coded system using low-density parity check codes. We also study the robustness of such a system to errors on the received bits in an interference cancellation context.

For each of the technology components (TeC) within the technology component clusters (TeCC), covering flexible air interface, new waveforms, modulation and coding techniques as well as multiple access, medium access control and enablers for radio resource management, key findings and conclusions collected so far are summarized in section 2. Continuative descriptions and research outcomes are given in the annex and referred publications. The results presented here will be extended in the further progress of the project, and they will be used in the next phase of the project to develop and refine the overall METIS system concept instantiated by the horizontal topics. The suitability of the single technology components for the overall system design being able to meet the wide range of requirements for 5G will then be evaluated.

Among these modulations, OFDM/OQAM is an interesting alternative to OFDM. However, a simple one-tap Zero Forcing (ZF) equalization of OFDM/OQAM modulation may cause a performance floor problem, while the transmission meets a requirement of high order constellations. Therefore, more complex equalization needs to be considered, such as Equalization with Interference Cancellation (EIC) technique, which has been presented to counteract the performance floor problem. In this paper, we propose a system design based on OFDM/OQAM modulation with Cyclic Prefix (CP) to also counteract the performance floor problem and keep simple equalization at receiver. The simulation results illustrate the efficiency of this system.
