When economic interests are broadened to include the interests of other parties, especially other parties in future generations, the opportunity to create aggregate value becomes more apparent. The intergenerational perspective enables us to see that in the long-run, economic and environmental interests often converge as resources are transferred across generations. The intergenerational perspective is particularly useful in highlighting the appropriateness of adopting this broader understanding of economic interests because the relationship between the economic interests of various actors often only becomes apparent over a period of time spanning across several generations. There are a number of factors that prevent us from taking this intergenerational perspective,...

We aim to bring into the international debate the existence of a South in a European country which is usually and univocally con- sidered to belong to the North. The analysis is structured around two main interconnected dimensions: 1) the macro-dimension of knowl- edge production where we show how, when analysing the experience of schooling, if the structure of the field itself and its logic of domination are not challenged, any critical epistemological discourse is destined to become a form of structural complicity with the intrinsic logic of the academic field; 2) the micro-dimension of school experience: schools, families and students engage and participate in the educational field, are part of it, adhere to its rules of play and struggle to ‘exist’ in its interstices.

Two aspects of the logic behind guidance practices come to light from data analysis. First, we have identified certain guidance practices associated with public universities that have high symbolic capital. Such universities commonly organize summer schools for selected high-flying students who have been particularly successful during their secondary school years. Second, we observe guidance practices based on the logic of marketing, where students are treated mainly as customers. The main message in this case is centred on the supply of services (presented through fairs, open days, campus visits, etc). These activities are not driven by students’ needs but rather by the interests of the organizations that consider their prestige as the main parameter of success. In the field of guidance as a market, «public interests», «commercial goals» and private «interests» are often intertwined. Market and service logic thus represent different strategies in the university field. On the one hand, they operate in a sphere of structural and symbolic differences (private/public universities, Northern/Southern universities). On the other hand, they produce effects that not only reinforce pre-existing structural hierarchies but also symbolic ones. Keywords: higher educational market, guidance, university reform, tertiary education fairs, service logic.

By analysing their trajectories, this contribution therefore aims to explore the relation between habitus and habitat in the creation of a specific standpoint and interest for social actors. Moreover, social and civic commitment are the expression of a political habitus and of an ethos rooted in practices and mea- nings shared collectively through situated and lasting social experiences. A habitus is also constructed within the young people’s own family and community history. Due to their commitment, the «web» of the stigmatized neighborhoods takes on its own form and the fragmented stories between generations gain a possibility of being recomposed. Through these experiences, social actors re-elaborate external stigmatizing representations and create collective forms of social and symbolic capital. In order to account for this process, we mobilize the notion of capital of autochthony (Renahy, 2010), which helps in understanding why local symbolic resources can explain the desire to stay and not to leave. In fact, we argue that it is the spatial dimension of social resources, the relationship between habitus and habitat, that anchors each project, each individual aspiration, to what gives them their value and a shared social sense. Finally, complicity and conflict form the conceptual couple that allows us to articulate the analysis in the different dimensions of the social and symbolic space observed.
Keywords: habitus, habitat, territorial stigmatization, space, capital of autochthony, conflict/complicity
