Spatial Social Networks (SSN) build on the node and edge structure used in Social Network Analysi... more Spatial Social Networks (SSN) build on the node and edge structure used in Social Network Analysis (SNA) by incorporating spatial information. Thus, SSNs include both topological and spatial data. The geographic embedding of the nodes makes it impossible to move the nodes freely, rendering standard topological algorithms (e.g. force layout algorithms) used in SNA ineffective to visualize SSN sociograms. We propose a new visualization technique for SSNs that utilize the spatial and social information to provide information about the orientation and scale of connections. The donut visualization can be used to summarize the entire network or can be used on a part of the network. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the donut visualization on two standard SSNs used in literature.

Many works have proposed machine learning based solutions such as text similarity between the headline and body text to detect the incongruence. Text similarity based methods fail to perform well due to different inherent challenges such as relative length mismatch between the news headline and its body content and non-overlapping vocabulary. On the other hand, more recent works that use headline guided attention to learn a headline derived contextual representation of the news body also result in convoluting overall representation due to the news body's lengthiness. This paper proposes a method that uses inter-mutual attention-based semantic matching between the original and synthetically generated headlines, which utilizes the difference between all pairs of word embeddings of words involved. The paper also investigates two more variations of our method, which use concatenation and dot-products of word embeddings of the words of original and synthetic headlines. We observe that the proposed method outperforms prior arts significantly for two publicly available datasets.

Thus, air quality monitoring using mobile sources holds enormous potential as it gives us the ability to perform spatiotemporal pollution mapping of a geographically wide region using just a few mobile sensors and at a cost that is almost negligible to ground-based static sensors. Drone technology has emerged as a very important platform to do sensing of various physical phenomena around us and by integrating low-cost and light-weight air quality sensors on a UAV, it is possible to get fine-grained spatiotemporal air quality data to have a better overview of the pollution variation and locate its source of origin. In this study, we have designed and manufactured a fixed-wing solar-powered UAV, with potential to perform perpetual flight using solar power and generate air quality data in real-time. Fixed-wing UAV design was chosen for this study due to less propeller wash on sensor readings and more flight time possible than a quadcopter. This UAV system was successfully field-tested at a low altitude and air quality data was generated on the ground, collecting, storing and transmitting data through a data fusion module consisting of low-cost OPC R1 sensor, Raspberry Pi and Pixhawk Flight controller. We do spatiotemporal analysis of the generated PM 2.5 data from the system, which could be very useful to identify pollution hotspots in urban areas, industrial region, smart cities and locate stubble burning sites.

In a non-ideal scenario, there are chances for a base model trained on a single device to make independent but complementary errors. To handle such cases, in this paper, we implement and release the code of 8 robust ML model combining methods that achieves reliable prediction results by combining numerous base models (trained on many devices) to form a central model that effectively limits errors, built-in randomness and uncertainties. We extensively test the model combining performance by performing 15 heterogeneous devices and 3 datasets based experiments that exemplifies how a complicated collective intelligence can be derived from numerous elementary intelligence learned by distributed, ubiquitous IoT devices.

Neem has been extensively used in Ayurveda, Unani and Homoeopathic medicine and has become a cynosure of modern medicine.Neem is an attractive broad-leaved, evergreen tree that can grow up to 30m tall and 2.5m in girth. Its trunk usually straight is 30-80 cm in diameter. Its spreading branches form a rounded crown of deep-green leaves and honey-scented flowers as much as 20m across. Azadirachtin is widely used as a basis for production of biopesticides; nevertheless, other properties have been recognized for this substance, among which the anticancer and antimalarial activity stand out. The methods available for azadirachtin extraction are diverse, including solid-liquid extraction and extraction with solvents at high or low temperatures. Alcohol based solvents are associated with higher extraction yields and are therefore preferred for the isolation of azadirachtin from plant parts. Clean-up of the extracts is generally required for further purification. The highest azadirachtin levels have been obtained from Neem seeds but concentration values present a large variation between batches. Therefore, in addition to extraction procedures, it is essential to establish routine methods for azadirachtin identification and quantification. Chromatography-based techniques are preferably selected for detection and quantification of azadirachtin in plant matrices. Overall, this process will guarantee a future

The resulting crowdsourced event processing can cater to the problem of event uncertainty and veracity by using humans to verify the results. This paper introduces the first hybrid crowd-enabled event processing engine. The paper proposes a list of five event crowd operators that are domain and language independent and can be used by any event processing framework. These operators encapsulate the complexities to deal with crowd workers and allow developers to define an event-crowd hybrid workflow. The operators are: Annotate, Rank, Verify, Rate, and Match. The paper presents a proof of concept of event crowd operators, schedulers, poolers, aggregators in an event processing system. The paper demonstrates the implementation of these operators and simulates the system with various performance metrics. The experimental evaluation shows that throughput of the system was 7.86 events per second with average latency of 7.16 seconds for 100 crowd workers. Finally, the paper concludes with avenues for future research in crowd-enabled event processing.
