The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that electricity can be generated directly from urea when considering hydrogen peroxide as oxidants. Two types of catalysts are taken into account for UFC: Pt/C and Ni/MWCNTs for anode while using Pt/C as cathode catalyst. Polarization curves and power densities are studied for a couple fuel-oxidant: urea solution-hydrogen peroxide. The maximum power densities for Pt/C-Pt/C are about 0.03mW/cm 2 , respective 0.05 mW/cm 2 for Ni/MWCNTs-Pt/C. Both UFC have showed a maximum potential in open circuit around of 400mV, respective 250mV.

In this paper we discuss the mass flow through arrays of microchannels, emphasizing the role of the periodicity of the structure and disregarding any interface issues. We assume an incompressible viscous fluid in slow, uniform motion, with negligible body forces, arriving at the relatively simple Stokes flow equation. We apply the multiple scale analysis, used to model the fluid flow through spatially periodic porous structures, to periodic structures of multiple parallel microchannels. Starting from the asymptotic expansion of the multiple scale analysis we propose a new numerical model based on the unconditionally stable Cranck-Nicholson scheme. The advantage of our approach is that the use of multiple scale analysis allows both the global (entire system) and local (each channel) analyses simultaneously, while the traditional method can only treat each channel.

The results that are presented in the current paper are summarising a professional approach in implementing an eco-innovative solution for the identification of secondary energy resources and improvement of energy efficiency in WWTPs. The main focus in the current paper has been concentrated on treatment of the wastewater sludge.

The scientific research activities have been based on the achievements made in the ROMANA project on the establishment of a methodology for hierarchical EEA in some geographical control volumes. Specifically, there were taken into consideration two scales as the National economy of Romania and the regional economy of the Constanta County that is part of the Dobrogea Region. Using the results and the validation of the multi-scale approach from ROMANA project, in the present paper, there are presented the results of the possible extrapolation of the method for the case of a country with islands like it is the case of Spain.

There are many possibilities to improve the efficiency and to reduce the weight of the fuel cells by the integration of new nanostructured materials.

Intensive research in the 1980s and 1990s has established the fundamental principles, especially with regard to convective heat and mass transfer through fluid saturated porous media. Today, the field expands through a growing number of applications on the technological frontier. Examples range from the miniaturization of heat exchangers, to flow and transport in living tissues. Classical applications from energy and civil engineering lend the field a breadth and stability that make it indispensable in present and future engineering. The current state of research and education in this field formed the subject of the international summer school on ‘Heat Transfer in Porous Media’, which was held on 25 July–3 August 2001 in Neptun, Romania, under the auspices of the Ovidius University, Constanta. Well-known professors were invited to lecture to an internationa...

Conceptul de economie bazata pe hidrogen este in mod strict legata the strategiile de dezvoltare durabila. Problema esentiala pentru implementarea unui astfel de concept consta in dezvoltarea de tehnologii eficiente pentru conversia resurselor energetice regenerabile in hidrogen. Lucrarea propusa include o parte a rezultatelor obtinute in proiectul HyRES care a avut ca scop evaluarea resurselor energetice regenerabile din zona Dobrogei in vederea conceperii unui sistem energetic alternativ care sa integreze tehnologiile energetice pe baza de hidrogen. Cuvinte cheie: producţie de hidrogen, surse de energie regenerabile.

In 2012, I had the chance to participate at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development organized at Rio de Janeiro, the so called "Rio + 20" Conference, as a member of the Official Delegation of Romania and at the same time representing the UN Academic Impact Initiative. On that position, I had the possibility to join many sessions of the Conference and to follow also the process of negotiations for the text of the Final Declaration of the Conference. Passing from one session to another, there were several aspects that were confusing me.
