Textile effluent-degrading and plant growth-promoting activities of these endophytes were determined. The analysis of endophytic bacterial communities indicated that plant species had a pronounced effect on endophytic bacterial association and maximum endophytes (56.5%) were associated with T. domingensis. These endophytic bacteria mainly belonged to different species of the genera Bacillus (39%), Microbacterium and Halomonas (12%). Eight of 41 strains showed maximum efficiency of textile effluent degradation also exhibited plant-growth promoting activities such as production of indole-3-acetic acid and siderophore, presence of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase and solubilization of inorganic phosphorous. This is the first study describing the diversity and plant-beneficial characteristics of the textile effluent-degrading endophytic bacteria associated with wetland plants. T. domingensis showed better growth in textile effluent and also hosted maximum numbers of endophytic bacteria in root and shoot. The interactions between T. domingensis and its associated endophytic bacteria could be exploited to enhance the efficiency of constructed wetlands (CWs) during the remediation of industrial effluent.

Three grasses, Lolium perenne, Leptochloa fusca, Brachiaria mutica, and two trees, Lecucaena leucocephala and Acacia ampliceps, were selected to investigate the diversity of hydrocarbon-degrading rhizospheric and endophytic bacteria. We found a higher number of hydrocarbon degrading bacteria associated with grasses than trees and that the endophytic bacteria were taxonomically different from rhizosphere associated bacteria showing their spatial distribution with reference to plant compartment as well as genotype. The rhizospheric soil yielded 22 (59.45 %), root interior yielded 9 (24.32 %) and shoot interior yielded 6 (16.21 %) hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria. These bacteria possessed genes encoding alkane hydroxylase and showed multiple plant growth-promoting activities. Bacillus (48.64 %) and Acinetobacter (18.91 %) were dominant genera found in this study. At 2 % crude oil concentration, all...

Effect of irrigation with treated municipal wastewater on the accumulation of heavy metals in soi... more Effect of irrigation with treated municipal wastewater on the accumulation of heavy metals in soils and food crops and potential health risks to human via consumption of these food crops are evaluated. The higher concentrations of iron (Fe), copper (Cu), chromium (Cr) and zinc (Zn) were found in lettuce, radish and carrots, respectively. However, trace metal levels in all vegetables were far lower than the food safety criteria of World Health Organization and European Union. Bioaccumulation factors (BAF) for heavy metals in different vegetables showed a trend in the order: Fe > Zn > Cu > Cr. The trends of estimated dietary intake (EDIs) for adults were in the order of Fe > Zn > Cr > Cu. The highest level of total coliform was recorded in spinach, followed by radish, egg plant, tomatoes and lettuce. The low uptake of heavy metals by vegetables shows that the health risks for human are insignificant. As the variations in transfer factor of metals is related to absorp...

Remarkable progress has been achieved in the percutaneous management of coronary artery disease o... more Remarkable progress has been achieved in the percutaneous management of coronary artery disease over the last decade. In the early 1990s, the primary success rate with the use of bare metal stents was 86-88% and the restenosis rate, 30%-40%. Over the last decade, drug-eluting stents have been developed to check the high rates of in-stent restenosis following percutaneous coronary revascularization. In randomized trials, polymer-coated sirolimus- and paclitaxel-eluting stents, when compared to bare metal stents, have been shown to markedly reduce the incidence of both angiographic restenosis and repeat revascularization. The effectiveness of drug-eluting stents in the prevention of restenosis has been confirmed in patients with stable stenotic lesions, as well as many patients with specific lesions, such as those with in-stent restenosis and acute myocardial infarction. Currently, the primary success rate using drugeluting stents has risen to over 95% and the restenosis rate to less than 10%. In spite of remarkable technological advances and improved outcomes with percutaneous coronary revascularization, chronic total occlusions of the coronary artery remain a source of procedural frustration and clinical uncertainty. With continued developments in catheterbased technologies, there is an opportunity to achieve recanalization of chronic total occlusions with drug-eluting stents; this subset of patients is now recognized as the last formidable barrier to the success of percutaneous revascularization. This review provides an overview of the pathophysiology of chronic total occlusions and the clinical outcomes associated with chronic total occlusion revascularization, and provides future directions for clinical investigation.

The RPV nucleic acid (RNA) is surrounded and protected in the cytoplasm by the nucleocapsid protein. Rinderpest can affect all the species of the order Artiodactyla -cloven footed animals/ even footed ungulates. The disease is characterized by the "the 3 D's: discharge, diarrhea and death. The spread of the disease is caused by the introduction of live infected animals into rinderpest free areas. Geographical distribution of rinderpest has been confined to only three "defined foci". There are several serological and molecular methods for the detection of the Rinderpest virus, but the PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is the most sensitive method for the detection of minute quantities of nucleic acid material, so RT -PCR (Reverse Transcription-PCR) is used to diagnose the RPV. Infection can easily be controlled by proper quarantine and hygienic measures, owing to virus, need of close contact in order to be transmitted. The Global Rinderpest Eradication Programme (GREP) is a time bound activity aiming at the total elimination of rinderpest from the world by the year 2010. There had been two epidemics of rinderpest in Pakistan. Thereafter the disease occurred sporadically. The present study is carried out to assess the status of the disease in Asia and particularly in Pakistan, thus providing help in part to eliminate this disease.

This study describes The Impacts of Corporal Punishment on Students' Academic Career and Personality Development up-to Secondary Level Education. The study was conducted in Chakdara town and adjacent areas of District Dir (Lower), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Data was collected from 360 respondents of primary and high schools' students using stratified random sampling technique through proportional allocation method using interview schedule. The data was analyzed by applying Chi-square test and processed in the form of tables, while discussions have been made on the basis of findings and results. The results show that corporal punishment has multidimensional impacts upon students' academic performance/career, psyche and personality development. The study suggests that teachers' education, training and awareness regarding curbing ways of corporal punishment and adopting alternative ways to correct students' misbehavior is inevitable.

On examination, patient had reddish, fleshy mass in left nasal cavity. Carotid angiography was inconclusive so incision biopsy was taken from nasal mass and it was reported as teratocarcinosarcoma. CT scan of PNS was done which showed heterogeneous mass in nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses with intracranial extension. The patient was operated. The approach was a combination of lateral rhinotomy with trans-basal sub-frontal craniotomy. He was treated by Co 60 and received a tumour dose of 56 Gy radiation. He is being followed regularly every 2 months after his final radiotherapy session and he is disease-free so far.

The study is based on qualitative analysis of 8000 tappas collected and recorded by authors from Pakhtu folklore. The objective is to explore gender identity formation and gendered patterns engraved in the language of these tappas in relation to Pakhtun society of KP, Pakistan. Although, oral in origin, they are now part of Pakhtun literary culture. This research study concludes that they serve as a guide and a source of gender socialization. Pakhtun social setup is gender-based favouring men at the cost of underrating women in domestic and public sphere. In this context, language employed in tappas play vital role in preserving, reinforcing and perpetuating gendered cultural expectations.

It has led to various research studies analysing utterances from a linguistic point of view exploring the words and sentences that constitute them. This research study aims to pragmatically analyse the dialogic patterns in a Shakespearian masterpiece, Hamlet. For the purpose of the study, the Nunnery Scene (Act III, Scene I) has been selected for pragmatic analysis with particular reference to context, cooperative principle, conversational maxims of Grice and implicature in qualitative paradigm. The findings reveal that these concepts are significant to the proper understanding and appreciation of the conversation.

As an analgesic and anti-pyretic, aspirin has been in use for over a century. It acetylates the COX enzyme, irreversibly inhibiting the formation of prostaglandin. Its action on platelet TxA2 has highlighted its role as an anti-thrombotic agent in cardiovascular patients. Over the last two decades, unique anti-inflammatory properties of aspirin not shared by other non-steroidals have been discovered. Aspirin biotransforms into salicylate, which has diverse but potent anti-inflammatory properties. As we strive to better understand the concepts of atherogenesis, chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and endothelial activation, these novel effects of aspirin provide new insights as to how this wonder drug works. These effects of aspirin alter many, if not all, components of the atherogenesis cascade shown in . J Atheroscler Thromb, 2005; 12: 185-190.

This article argues that language reflects as well as preserves, propagates, reinforces and perpetuates this culture. The article explores the significance of the role of language, that is, words and labels, in the formation and construction of gender identity in the social and cultural setup. The study is based on an analysis of 42 textbooks in English, Urdu and Pakhtu, used for teaching students from grades 1 to 10 in state-owned and privately run Pakistani schools. The article contends that language serves as a means to preserve age-old gender inequalities that in turn are manipulated and exploited to preserve social structures marked by gender bias, disparity and gender segregation. The research further indicates that the language of textbooks advocates masculinity and male domination in the decision-making process,
