The reaction between ZnCl 2 and (S)-N-ethyl-N-phenyl-2-pyrrolidinemethanamine (S-EPP) as a chiral... more The reaction between ZnCl 2 and (S)-N-ethyl-N-phenyl-2-pyrrolidinemethanamine (S-EPP) as a chiral ligand affords [ZnCl 2 (S-EPP)], whose structure has been determined by X-ray crystallography. [ZnEt 2 (S-EPP)] has demonstrated high activity toward the polymerization of rac-lactide with a maximum turnover frequency (TOF) of 121. Despite the intended stereocontrol by employing a chiral ligand, however, the observed heterotacticity was limited to under 0.6. The MWDs of the PLAs were found to be modulated by changing the solvent or controlling the concentration of the monomer in the solution. The glass transition temperature (T g ) was critically dependent on the MW within the narrow MWD regime, but the dependence became significantly shallow when the MWD was broadened.

The complex is characterized by elemental analysis, 1H-MNR and X-ray crystallography. The crystal system is orthorhombic with space group of P212121 and unit cell parameters: a = 8.6911(4), b = 9.7755(7), c = 37.275(2) Å, V = 3166.9(3) Å3, Z = 4, D x = 1.445 Mg/m3. The crystal structure reveals that zinc metal is ligated by two PEPMA ligands in a distorted tetrahedral fashion. Interestingly, both nitrogen atoms of amine at PEPMA to the central zinc metal exhibit (R)-configuration. The reaction of N,N 0 -bis(2-pyridylmethylidene)-(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (L) with Cu(ClO 4 )... more The reaction of N,N 0 -bis(2-pyridylmethylidene)-(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane (L) with Cu(ClO 4 ) 2 AE 6H 2 O was carried out and resulted in the formation of a new chiral tetradentate Cu(II) complex. The structure of Cu(L)(NCCH 3 )(ClO 4 ) 2 was determined by Xray diffraction method. This result revealed that Cu 2+ ion in the complex was coordinated by four nitrogen atoms of the chiral Schiff base ligand and one nitrogen atom of NCCH 3 in a distorted trigonal bipyramid geometry. The yields of asymmetric Henry reaction between benzaldehyde and nitromethane in the presence of triethylamine or diiospropylethylamine by using the complex as a catalyst were high (P94%), however, the enantiomeric excesses were not (ca. 30%).
