Using the multiplication of networks we can obtain from them different derived networks. We discuss the related normalization problems and present different approaches used for analysis of bibliographic networks: cuts, islands, index of collaborativness, Hummon-Doreian weights, bibliographic coupling, co-citation, etc. The proposed approaches will be illustrated with their applications on the collections of network data sets obtained from the Web of Knowledge.

In this perspective, the single mothers represent an interesting target study, because they are more exposed at risk of poverty and isolation, especially in geographical contexts where the lack of social services for children and the persistence of traditional models underpinning the division of domestic tasks, affects the time that women have to spend on running the family. This makes the work harder than is necessary and it is a burden that women tend to shoulder alone (Saraceno, 2002). Furthermore, although some scholars have shaped ideas about how survival strategies of poor single mothers are based on relationships of exchange (Stack, 1974; Bell; 1982) based on reciprocity (Nelson; 2000), a substantial body of literature offers more scepticism about the degree to which those in need can rely on others for support in getting by. Indeed, not only networks of solidarity can be developed between poor subjects, but also competitive and even constrictive relationships. Aim of the paper is to analyse ego-centered social networks in a sample of low income single mothers living in Naples (Italy), defining how the social context features influence the network structure, and describing the different type of relationships of support, their strength or weakness, and those on whom they rely for daily living

In the last decades, indeed, there was a steady increase of single parent families in all European countries, and consequently the number of risk areas related to single mothers is increased. The aim of the present contribution is to describe how social networks represent an essential source of social capital providing support to single mothers. An ego-cen tered network approach is adopted to reconstruct personal networks of a sample of single mothers living in a town of Southern Italy. The pattern of ego-alteri relationships in the personal networks is investigated by adopting multilevel regression type models.

This talk discusses the analysis and grounding of social interactions in online and offline networks. We consider distributional semantics, structural network correlation and network interdependencies. Specifically, we focus on the analysis of user relatedness, community structure, and relations on online and offline networks. We discuss findings and results that justify the use of even implicitly accruing social interaction networks for the analysis of user-relatedness, community structure, etc. Furthermore, we provide insights into relating online and offline interactions and focus on characteristics of their interrelations. Our results provide for valuable insights, e.g., for the development of link analysis methods, community detection, and the connection of online and offline information.

Empirically, we perform a comparative review of the Scorecards indicators at the base of the Bologna Process monitoring project. We argue that the fabrication of EHEA could be seen as the installation of new time-space 'time' and 'space' appear inevitably intertwined. Instead of being a simple addition, the time space of EHEA interferes with the multiple time spaces of educational institutions and is characterized by being a network time, an unbroken and fragmented temporality sustained, enacted through, and controlled by the fluidity and the malleability of standards. They change recurrently over time, playing with different rhythms. What emerges is an overall arrhythmia that maintains the field permanently in tension. This reconfigures temporality as intrinsically manifold: as multiple and heterogeneous. Moreover, the temporal politics of standards reconfigures perception of past, present and especially future. The current state of implementation is constantly being (re)shaped in relation to the present and future performances, where's one today level of EHEA targets achievement forms the basis for improvement tomorrow. In this scenario, assessing standards and headline targets become a policy instrument for synchronizing the countries performances, by locating them in a temporal framework that encodes future-oriented dispositions.

In doing so, it uses the governmentality studies as a sensitising framework to problematise what we term here as the 'calculative and instrumental turn' in the evaluation of Higher Education. The work reflects on the complex assemblage of forms of knowledge, technical means and collective and individual subjects through which the evaluation of the Italian universities unfolds in its current form. The attempt is to highlight the changes produced in how Higher Education and its ethical subjects are thought and their qualities are conceived and appraised. The article presents some conclusive remarks on some of the paradoxical risks of the Evaluation turn, namely contractualisation, depoliticisation and fabrication, but also insists on its reflexivity potential, interpreting the current developments as a missed opportunity.

Specifying when, why, and how personal relationships play a significant role in individual lives is a common concern at the core of studies on social support. For this reason, the study adopts a strategy of analysis for ego-centred social support networks based on a mixed-methods approach. Hence, the strength of social networks analytical tools and multilevel logistic regression models is combined with the opportunities stemming from qualitative data provided by in-depth interviews. Firstly, statistical tools are used to describe the patterns of social support relationships in ego networks and to estimate the main determinants of social anchorage; secondly narratives are considered to understand the content, the meaning, and the significance that social relationships have for egos. The case of single mothers, which represent a clear instance of the relevance of social support derived from personal networks, is investigated.
