Both teams were instructed to record the address, food outlet type, and the main items sold by each food outlet. Teams walked each thoroughfare on separate days and in opposite directions, respectively. Mirror‐image correspondence analysis was used to determine the inter‐rater reliability between teams. The validity of direct observation in mapping a community food environment in Quetzaltenango was determined based on the face validity of this work by two experts who also walked the same thoroughfares. Results: The inter‐rater reliability between teams was moderate for both thoroughfares A and B (...

Specifically, the livelihood situation and needs were determined and proposed actions for the improvement of the livelihood situation of the community. Thirty five members of the community participated in the research. A focused group discussion was utilized in gathering the data. The residents of the community were found to be engaged in farming, sold agricultural products, and had only three variety stores getting its supplies from other places. They encountered livelihood problems mostly related to marketing and transportation. They wanted additional livelihood program, to improve sales, and be provided with seminar-workshops on business-related activities. The findings show that there is a need for a program to improve their...

We evaluated the CellaVision DM96 (CellaVision AB, Lund, Sweden), an automated image analysis system for digital peripheral blood cell analysis, comparing the results with direct manual microscopy. The system obtains digital images of the blood cells at high magnification and these images are analyzed using a neural network based on a large database of cells. Material and Methods: We analyzed 234 PB films stained with May-Grünwald-Giemsa from patients of the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. Leukocyte values were from 1.12 to 282 × 109/L (Advia 2120, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics SL). 177 of the PB films were from patients with hematological diseases: lymphoid neoplasias: 83, acute leukemias: 52, chronic myeloproliferative diseases: 20, myelodisplastic syndromes: 18, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria: 2, hemoglobin S: 1 and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura: 1. However when there is intense perennial malaria transmission coupled with concurrent infection with the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV), knowledge of IgG antibody response profiles is limited. In this study we assessed the impact of dual HIV-Malaria infections on IgG subclass responses to MSP3 (QβMSP3) and UB05 (QβUB05) in individuals living in two areas of Cameroon differing in transmission intensity. We observed differences in antigen specific IgG and IgG subclass responses which was dependent upon the antigen type, malaria transmission intensity, HIV infection, malaria infection and dual HIV-malaria infections. Individuals living in high malaria transmission areas irrespective of HIV or malaria status had significantly higher IgG response...

The present paper is aimed at evaluating the effect of 10 years of follow-up under interactive consultation on the comprehension and adhesion to the treatment, as well as on the clinical, biochemical and therapeutic changes in a group of type 1 diabetics. 40 persons with type 1 diabetes mellitus and no more than 5 years of diagnosis were included in the study. It is a descriptive investigation about the tributary area, with a documentary or bibliographic research design, using analysis, deduction and description as methods. Data-collection techniques were consultation of documentary sources, registration and content analysis; data-collecting instruments were cards, notebooks and registry sheets, among others. These techniques and instruments were applied to the constitutional norms, laws and jurisprudence related to the subject, as well as to texts and specialized literature. Results show that national regulatory powers do not necessarily imply tax power; therefore, the exercise of such regulatory powers does not impede the exercise of municipal tax powers. However, in some cases, the national regulatory power over certain issues subject to tax power originated or derived from municipal power, affects the exercise of municipal tax power.

This study tried to evaluate the deficiencies of Se in semiarid soil conditions and how the micronutrients can be effectively manage through the recycling of organic matter. This is especially true for Se, since this micronutrient is not essential for the development of plants, but it becomes an important element for animal and human diets, in order to improve defences again cancer and other well known diseases. Mineral forms of Selenium are expensive and are very limited as non renewable resource. Research has shown that organic matter plays a very important role in the selenium immobilisation and low availability to plants. Th...
