Despite its target, producing fashionable and beautiful items to fulfil the needs of different consumer categories consumes a considerable quantity of raw materials, energy, water, labour force, etc. Every year, natural resources become more limited, hard to find and expensive; in these terms, the producers are forced to find either alternative solutions to replace as much as they can the needed primary raw materials or to try to maximise their use (which means to reduce the quantity of waste) or to use the waste to produce other things. The consumption of raw materials is determined during the development stage of the new model: the designer analyses the sketch of the selected model, then establishes and applies the needed steps to design the model pieces, creates the 3D virtual or supervises the manufacturing process of the physical prototype to verify the design solution, applies changes after analysing the protot...

In this paper, have been performed two kind of fatigue testing: with time delay (relaxation) and with load cycles (hysteresis) on specimens sampled from the four compression zones along the leg of stockings, for both cases, before and after use. Fatigue testing results emphasized some changes in the mechanical characteristics of the medical stockings samples, but without affecting the suitability in preserving the gradual compression of the medical stockings after wearing-washing cycles.

The bacterial cellulose was obtained by developing an Acetobacter xylinum culture and was visualized using SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and elementally determined through EDAX (dispersive X-ray analysis) tests. Keratin species (β–keratose and γ-keratose) was extracted by hydrolytic degradation from non-dyed human hair. SEM, EDAX and conductometric titration tests were performed for physical–chemical and morphological evaluation. Cytocompatibility tests performed in vitro confirmed the material non-toxic effect on cells. The scaffolds, with and without stem cells, were grafted on the burned wounds on the rabbit’s dorsal region and the grafts were monitored for 21 days after the application on the wounds. The clinical monitoring of the grafts and the histopathological examination demonstrated the regenerative potent...

This paper is part of a study on the development and design of some cellulose articles intended f... more This paper is part of a study on the development and design of some cellulose articles intended for certain cutaneous allergic diseases: contact dermatitis (CD) and atopic dermatitis (AD). The study is based on the utilization of 100% cotton supports grafted with a cyclodextrin product, namely monochlorotriazinyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MCT-β-CD), for the inclusion of some natural active principles (AP), such as Viola tricoloris Herba (VTH), menthol (Ml) and propolis (Pr) ,with anti-allergic properties. The cellulose support addressing patients with cutaneous affections realizes a system for the transdermal controlled release of the AP from the cavities of the cyclodextrin grafted on the cellulose support, to the hypoderm level of the skin. In order to highlight the grafting with cyclodextrin reactive product and the inclusion of anti-allergic AP, the cellulose support was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) measurements and nitrogen elemental analysis, while ...

The grafting was performed in the presence of (NH4)2S2O8 as a polymerization initiator. The grafted samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analyses. The effect of grafting on the comfort indices (hygroscopicity and vapor permeability) and the tinctorial properties (color intensity and dyeing fastness) were analyzed. Further addition of AgNO3 in the final reaction mixture used for grafting of polyester fabric confers antibacterial effect to the treated samples. The properties of the polyester fabric were highly improved by grafting with 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl acrylate.

The adsorbent was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-Ray powder diffraction, diffuse reflectance UV-visible spectroscopy and EDX analysis. The influences of several parameters such as pH, adsorbent concentration, adsorption time and dye concentration on the adsorption capacity of g-Al2O3 and Co/g-Al2O3 were investigated. The obtained results indicate that the adsorption is strongly dependent on the solution pH. The maximum adsorption capacity of the Reactive blue 19 dye onto Co/gama-Al2O3 takes place at around pH 2. The adsorption process is fast in the first minutes (95% from the amount of dye being removed after 6 minutes).

Methods: The achievement of a biomaterial manufactured of alternative layers of chitosan (CS) and sodium alginate (Alg) with the inclusion of tacrolimus (Ta) between layers. By the gradual dissolution of layers, Ta is released. Results: On a cotton fabric, it has been performed a biomaterial consists of 10 layers of CS and Alg. The biomaterial can sustain and then release Ta according with a specific relase kinetics and by avoiding “burst effect”. The following have been evaluated: coated fabric loading degree, the number of charges on the specific surface, the dyeing tests, the Ta kinetic release and the elemental analysis (EDAX). The method proposed describes the advantages of releasing the drug as well as the limits imposed by using other systems for controlled drug release, such as cyclodextrins or hydrogels. Conclusion: In paper, the proposed biomaterial is a viable alternative for regular treatments of cutaneous diseases with a Ta formulation supported from a textile fabric for psoriasis.
