The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between students' perceptions of the teaching and learning towards the lecturers with their achievements in Mathematics at the Centre for Pre University Studies. The study was a descriptive study in which a survey research design was adopted. A total of 841 students from the centre participated in the study. The data were collected through student's questionnaire. The questionnaires consisted of 26 questions. 5-Likert Scale questionnaires used in this study focused on the five categories of students' perceptions; teaching, evaluations, subjects, guidance and environment dimensions. The findings revealed that there is no significant correlation between the average scores of students' perceptions of teaching and learning towards the Mathematics lecturer with the average scores Mathematics achievement of the students. The study also revealed that there are no significant differences between the average scores of male and female students' perceptions of the effectiveness of teaching and learning of the Mathematics lecturer. The findings of this study show that the lecturer can improve their teaching skills and techniques that are appropriate to the students.

Research paper thumbnail of Innovative Classroom Strategy: Impact on Students’ Mathematics Motivation, Anxiety and Achievement in Pre-University Studies

This study aims to incorporate a classroom intervention strategy using a brain-based teaching approach (BBTA) with technological tools to improve students' mathematics performance in pre-university studies. BBTA was used in the classroom to increase students’ mathematics interest and minimise their mathematics anxiety to increase mathematics performance. Two hundred and six (206) pre-university students were exposed to both BBTA and conventional instructions during their Statistic lessons. Questionnaire comprises of motivation and anxiety-related questions as well as pre and post mathematics tests were administered to these students. Based on the findings, students with low anxiety appeared to have more self-confidence when studying mathematics, which simultaneously improved their examination results. These two elements are critical i...

Competition among school leavers to further their studies at a higher level institution is getting tougher; making choosing a program offered by universities becomes a real challenge. After completing secondary school studies, most universities require students to complete a minimum of 1–2 years of post-secondary education before enrolment. Pre-university program is one of the options of post-secondary education. Since the curriculum of pre-university program is very comprehensive, students attending this program have to undergo various challenges throughout their academic sessions. Therefore, students are expected to have their own targets and focus prior to attending any of these studies. In this study, the researchers use a survey to investigate and analyze factors that influence students’ decisions in choosing a pre-unive...

However, its dependency on experts’ knowledge causes difficulties in information extraction and data collection. Therefore, to overcome the difficulties, this research proposed a new type 2 fuzzy time series (T2FTS) forecasting model. The T2FTS model was used to exploit more information in time series forecasting. The concepts of sliding window method (SWM) and fuzzy rule-based systems (FRBS) were incorporated in the utilization of T2FTS to obtain forecasting values. A sliding window method was proposed to find a proper and systematic measurement for predicting the number of class intervals. Furthermore, the weighted subsethood-based algorithm was applied in developing fuzzy IF–THEN rules, where it was later used to perform forecasting. This approach provides inferences based on how people think and make judgments. In this research, the data sets from previous studies of crude palm oil prices were use...

There are risks and uncertainties arising from instability of crude palm oil (CPO) prices. Therefore, this research develops a new CPO price forecasting method using weighted subsethood-based algorithm in order to generate fuzzy rules of forecasting. The concept of fuzzy rule-based systems was embedded in fuzzy time series application to generate fuzzy IF-THEN rules. This paper aims to enhance the efficacy of time-series forecasting, which would in turn increase the accuracy of the predictions. The CPO prices data set was used for validation purposes. The accuracy of forecasting of the proposed method was compared with previous methods. The numerical results are comparable with the previous methods. The outcomes of the proposed method have shown an increase in the accuracies of the CPO price forecasts. As such, the above-mentioned method can be utilized for the creation of a new set of fuzzy rules to better predict CPO prices. INDEX TERMS Fuzzy time series, fuzzy rule-based systems, weighted subsethood based algorithm, forecasting CPO prices.
