Many times it is observed in physics learning that students are not consistent in solving problem... more Many times it is observed in physics learning that students are not consistent in solving problems and they use contradictory ideas to answer similar questions. Also it is observed students exhibit different ‘mental model’ while answering different questions on same concept. Thus, students seem to be holding mixtures of different models on various concepts. The tools of the quantum mechanics can be used in analyzing the problem of the learning by a class of students. Some of such tools developed by Physics Education Research Group (PERG) at University of Maryland (UMd) are describe here. These techniques of analysis have been applied to a group of standard 12 Science students at Nashik (Maharashtra) district for on a concept ‘black body radiation’ from Quantum Mechanics. The results of this application have also been discussed in the present communication.

Education and training help build the skilled human resources which add values to the products an... more Education and training help build the skilled human resources which add values to the products and contribute to the prosperity of the country. This results in increased standard of living of the population which raises their purchasing power and assists in building domestic market. This becomes a self-propelling cycle and keeps adding to the economy of the resource-starved developing countries. These developing nations have peculiar issues regarding development of the human resources of the state. These issues include extremely large number of population to educate and train, lack of quality trainers, insufficient physical infrastructure, cultural issues, prevalence of malpractices in student registration and evaluation, and other related issues. Distance education mode is often referred to as ‘industrial form of learning.’ It is thus natural that technology plays an important role in this form of education. Not only does technology makes system effective and efficient but also offers operation round the clock, anonymity, cost-effectiveness, transparency, encryption, and many other benefits. It can be used to curb corrupt practices in the examinations, admission, and other pivotal processes in the organization. In this chapter, we will discuss the various issues in implementing the technology in ‘appropriate’ manner so that the decision makers do not blindly follow the technology bandwagon but assess the situations at their locations and take wise decisions. Various innovative technological interventions will be discussed with a view to scenario of appropriateness in the context of its application.
