In recent technological innovations, three-dimensional printing is slowly paving its way into dentistry. It works on the concept of additive manufacturing; whereby sequential layers of material are deposited on top of one another to eventually form an object. It is emerging as a promising technology due to high efciency, accuracy, and minimal time consumption. This article gives an overview of 3D printing and its versatile applications in different branches of dentistry.

This restorative modality can be offered as the treatment option in a wide variety of different cases such as correcting tooth defects, abrasion, orthodontics, diastema, tooth discoloration, coronal fracture or to adjust occlusion. Due to its color and optical properties, ceramic represents the material of choice when a high level of esthetics is required. This article reports the management of a case in which ceramic veneer used to achieve the desired esthetic results.

Research paper thumbnail of A Brief Chronological Review of Dental Implant History

From ancient era to contemporary modern time’s replacements of missing teeth with artificial teet... more From ancient era to contemporary modern time’s replacements of missing teeth with artificial teeth has been an aspiration of humankind. The history of implants goes back to Egyptian civilization where first copper stud was used in the mouth. Human skulls dating from 600 A.D showed man attempted to implant carved shells into the anterior mandible. In the beginning of the 1800s, in Europe the teeth were bought off from the resurrectionists which were collected from the poor or the corpses for purposes of allotransplantation which was later discarded due to secondary infections. In 1900s a revolution was seen in dental implants and various materials were used such as porcelain, cobalt-chromium –molybdenum, titanium etc. Prof Branemark in 1960s with the discovery his concept of osseo integration brought the defining moment in history dental implants. This article provides a brief chorological overview of history of dental implants. Keyword: History, Dental Implants, Chronological order....

Hence, this study is undertaken to evaluate dentists’ attitude toward radiation hazards and awareness regarding radiation protection techniques in dental clinics amongst dental practitioners of Western Rajasthan. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, awareness regarding radiation safety measures in dental clinics was assessed on 163 dental practitioners of Western Rajasthan during a Continuing Dental Education Programme (CDE). Results: 48.46% dentist had poor, and 49.07% had moderate knowledge about radiation protection in dental radiology. Only 2.45% had thorough knowledge about radiation protection techniques. Conclusion: It was alarming to know that dentist’s knowledge and awareness regarding radiation protection techniques in dental clinics was not satisfactory. Therefore, more emphasis should...

The most quotidian drug used for fever and pain is paracetamol. Although adverse reactions to paracetamol in India are rare, at times they can cause life-threatening situations. Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is one such potentially lethal adverse drug reaction. The most reported cases of analgesic-induced SJS were due to oxicams or propionic acid derivatives. There are very few detailed reports of SJS due to the use of paracetamol. We report a case of SJS, which occurred due to the use of paracetamol. The clinical features of this condition and multidisciplinary management of the patient are described in brief.

Research paper thumbnail of Mandibular Ramus and Gonialangle Analysis as Predictors of Sex Determination in Northern Gujarat Population: A Digital Panoramic Study

Mandible may play a vital role in sex determination, as it is the most dimorphic bone of skull, which is often recovered intact. Mandibular ramus and gonial angle can be used to differentiate between sexes and age estimation AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to assess the usefulness of digital panoramic radiographs to determine sex and age using linear measurements made with respect to gonial angle and ramus region in the population of north Gujrat MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 200 patients (North Gujrat : Males and females in equal number) were further divided into age groups30-40 years. The linear measurements were made in ramus and gonial angle region, which were calculated by using Adobe Acrobat Reader, and ndings were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Males showed a higher average value in terms of ramus breadth, condylar and co...

Research paper thumbnail of Molecular markers in oral lichen planus: A systematic review

Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2016

Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory mucosal disease that is usually detected in 0.... more Oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory mucosal disease that is usually detected in 0.5-2.2% of the human population. Among these, only 0.5-2.9% of the lesions progress to carcinoma. However, there are no prognostic markers available presently to recognize the increased risk in malignant transformation of the lesions. Selected markers for cell proliferation, adhesion, apoptosis and lymphocytic infiltration were analyzed by immunohistochemistry in addition to static cytometry for DNA content. The concept linking OLP and oral squamous cell carcinoma states that chronic inflammation results in crucial DNA damage, which further progresses to development of carcinoma. Even though in the past decade, enormous information has been accumulated on malignant potential of OLP, its transformation still remains unclear. Hence, the purpose of this article was to review cellular and molecular markers to understand the pathogenesis of OLP and its progression toward malignancy.
