Leprosy related stigma can be characterized as a social curse, because those affected are excluded from group life and social participation which has severe implications for psychological health. The Nepal Leprosy Trust run a community-based self-help group intervention that aims to develop a new empowered identity to re-establish access to multiple group memberships' through social participation. In this applied cross-sectional study, informed by the Social Identity Model of Identity Change, we assess this intervention. Participants (N = 98) were members of self-help groups in 10 rural villages in Nepal, and completed measures of self-help group identification, access to multiple groups, internalized stigma and wellbeing. Mediation models indicated that self-help group identification was indirectly linked to reduced stigma and increased well-being through access to multiple groups. Supporting the Social Identity Model of Identity Change, we present novel evidence that group-based interventions can offer new valued identities that link to social cure resources, even in the most adverse circumstances. It ran from 2011 to 2016. The RECLAIM methodology reflected that of an earlier STigma Elimination Project that was implemented under the title of “STEP”. What follows in this paper are the salient findings of an independent evaluation of RECLAIM that took place in April 2016. Objectives: The main objective of RECLAIM CDR was to ascertain the extent to which the STEP methodology might impact on poverty alleviation. Method: Quantitative data relating to: impairment status, participation, selfefficacy, and relative poverty was analysed. Qualitative methods were also used for triangulation and to gain perspective. Results: † 50 of the self-care groups (SCG) that were established progressed to become self-help groups (SHG) with a total membership of 866 people. † The median score on the Grameen Progress out of Poverty Index (PPI) rose from 27 to 38. † There was an improvement in levels of social participation with 44% of beneficiaries reporting “no restriction”. † “Eye Hand and Foot” scores suggested that 68% of leprosy affected SHG members neither experienced improvement or deterioration in impairment status. † The median self-efficacy score rose from 20 to 29. † 47 of the 50 SHGs had organized and managed a variety of activities that demonstrated commitment to social responsibility. Conclusion: The outcomes of the project suggest that self-care, as applied by groups of people affected by leprosy does enhance perceived self-efficacy and that the energy generated by such perceptions leads to more productive and fruitful lives generally.

The Participation Scale (popularly known as The P Scale) was applied to compare leprosy affected people who participated in STEP groups with a control group comprising leprosy affected people who lived in villages where STEP had not been implemented. It was found that STEP participants had significantly higher levels of participation compared with controls and that their levels of social participation were higher than would be expected even for the general population. It was also found that leprosy affected people without visible deformity or ulceration (whether in the STEP group or not) do not appear to suffer participation restriction in southern Nepal.

LF infection can lead to lymphoedema and hydrocoele, while secondary effects of leprosy infection include impairments to hands, eyes and feet. The disabling effects of both conditions can be managed through self-care and the supportive effects of self-help groups (SHGs). A network of SHGs exists for people affected by leprosy in four districts in Nepal's Central Development Region, however no such service exists for people affected by LF. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of integrating LF affected people into existing leprosy SHGs in this area. Methods: A survey was conducted using a semi-structured questionnaire to elicit information on: (i) participant characteristics, clinical manifestation and disease burden; (ii) participants' knowledge of management of their condition and access to services; and (iii) participants' knowledge and perceptions of the alternate condition (LF affected participants' knowledge of leprosy and vice versa) and attitudes towards integration. Results: A total of 52 LF affected and 53 leprosy affected participants were interviewed from 14 SHGs. On average, leprosy affected participants were shown to have 1.8 times greater knowledge of self-care techniques, and practiced 2.5 times more frequently than LF affected participants. Only a quarter of LF affected participants had accessed a health service for their condition, compared with 94.3% of leprosy affected people accessing a service (including SHGs), at least once a week. High levels of stigma were perceived by both groups towards the alternate condition, however, the majority of LF (79%) and leprosy (94.3%) affected participants stated that they would consider attending an integrated SHG. Conclusions: LF affected participants need to increase their knowledge of self-care and access to health services. Despite stigma being a potential barrier, attitudes towards integration were positive, suggesting that the SHGs may be a good platform for LF affected people to start self-care in this area. Trial registration: This is not a registered trial.

To the Editor: Prune Belly Syndrome (PBS) is a rare congenital anomaly with incidence of 1 in 30,... more To the Editor: Prune Belly Syndrome (PBS) is a rare congenital anomaly with incidence of 1 in 30,000 live births [1]. It is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by triad of deficient abdominal muscle, cryptorchidism and urinary tract malformations. Other associatedmalformations are congenital heart diseases, malrotation of gut and limb defects. However, association with sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is not known. Here, we present a case of PBS with sacrococcygeal teratoma. A 30-y-old primi female with a non-consanguineous marriage, delivered a stillborn male baby at 34 wk of gestation. There was no antenatal history of medical illness and teratogenic exposures. Anthropometric parameters of the baby were appropriate for age. The baby had thin wrinkled skin and flabby abdominal wall ballooning out in the flanks and skin creases radiating laterally from the umbilicus, low set and deformed ears and club foot (Fig. 1a). A lobulated mass was found in the sacrococcygeal region with variable consistency and dilated veins were seen over the surface (Fig . 1b) . Ultrasonography of the mass revealed an immature SCT. USG of the abdomen showed bilateral cryptorchidism and hydronephrosis. PBS is also named as Eagle-Barrett Syndrome [2]. Etiology of PBS remains unclear. It has a male sex preponderance. Wrinkled, prune-like abdominal skin is characteristic of Prune Belly syndrome [2]. Dilated, non-obstructed urinary system is one of the cardinal features of PBS [3] Musculoskeletal defects are present in 45% cases while involvement of gastrointestinal system is seen in 30% cases of PBS. Atrial and ventricular septal defects, patent ductus arteriosus and tetrology of fallot are also associated [4] USG of abdomen, intravenous pyelography, micturating cystourethrography and X-ray are useful investigations. Management includes surgery for urogenital problems and antibiotics for infections. SCT originates from the totipotent cells of the primitive knot [5] It can be solid or cystic in nature. In neonatal period, 10% of SCT may be malignant; second trimester ultrasound and α-fetoprotein are useful investigations to * Sunil Gothwal dr.sunilgothwal@gmail.com
Surface and grain boundary interdiffusion in nanometer-scale LSMO/BFO bilayer

Unexpected low value of room temperature magnetization in bilayer indicates towards the possibility of interdiffusion. Further, sharp fall in the value of T C (53 K) also added our anxiety towards possible interdiffusion in BFO/LSMO system. Low-angle x-ray diffraction technique is used to investigate interdiffusion phenomena, and the temperature-dependent interdiffusivity is obtained by accurately monitoring the decay of the first-order modulation peak as a function of annealing time. It has been found that the diffusivity at different temperatures follows Arrhenius-type behavior. X-ray reflection (XRR) pattern obtained for the bilayer could not be fitted in the Parratt’s formalism, which confirms the interdiffusion in it. Depth profiles of 209 Bi, 56 Fe ions measured by secondary ion mass spectroscope (SIMS) further substantiate the diffusion of these ions from upper BFO layer into lower LSMO layer.

The examinations were conducted in natural light with a mouth mirror, community periodontal index (CPI) probe and an explorer with the subject seated in a regular chair. The following prosthodontics/malocclusion traits were assessed; presence or absence of fixed and or removable appliances, treatment needs, presence of spacing, crowding in the incisal segments, overjet, open bite and posterior cross bite. The periodontal condition was assessed by means of the community periodontal index of treatment needs (CPITN) in relation to selected index teeth: The statistical analysis was carried out using statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) (version 21.0). One-way ANOVA was used to compa...
