The prime minister has the coalition parties, the army, civil society groups, the Privy Council, and the Royals behind him. It came to no surprise that the beleaguered Red Shirt insurgency crashed and burned at Lumphini-Rajprasong. But wasn't Lumphini-Rajprasong a case of classic textbook "Class War" in the 21 st century? AN AMERICAN assassin hired by a local Sukhumvit-based boss learns compassion the hard way in the movie Bangkok Dangerous. He eventually loses his nerve and is reduced to an emotional pancake. By contrast, in the real world of Thai politics, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva used "an iron fist in a velvet glove" tactic while dealing with the Red Shirts at Lumphini-Rajprasong. Abhisit avoided a critical error by not imposing martial law. Instead, he imposed a state of emergency.

The protesters are seeking to maintain their rights in Thai civil-military relations. This protest culture makes political change possible through civil disobedience.

Adherence to autochthonous politics allows for the gradual evolution of indigenous political regimes in the face of foreign alternatives. Autochthonous politics is said to exist when indigenous political systems are not displaced by foreign political systems over time. Successful autochthonous power systems often revolve around a central political figure like a monarch or a dictator who maintains a stranglehold over the entire regime through a network of loyal sycophants and supplicants. The monarch or dictator retains central control over political power through legal and extra-legal means. The clearest example from European history was Louis XV. The Sun King or le roi soleil, meant when he said "l'état cest moi" or "I am the state". The singular repsentation of a political demi-god derives legitimacy from mysterious universal sources. In the case of Thailand, the powerful Siamese monarchs sat on their thrones above heaven, earth and all men. All beings paid homage to the great and absolute power of the autochthonous monarch. The summative power of the monarch was made all the more powerful because of the grand narratives that surround the mystery and spirituality of the King of Kings 1 .

This means that the problem in the South is especially unique and divides Muslim from non-Muslim in terms of a general observation. A second local problem is that there is a very strong connection among the descendants of Thai-Muslims most of whom attribute their connection with Islam to a fabled Pattani Sultanate that was said to have existed in the 14 th century. This coincided with the spread of Islam in Southeast Asia and the southward expansion of the Thai state into what is known today as the Federation of Malaysia. Another local problem is the failure of various assimilationist policies since the 19 th century to educate the 80-87% of the population in Buddhism. More so, scholars like Dorairajoo refer to the situation in 2004 as "the use of Islam as a rallying cry" in an attempt to link the issue to Palestine and Afghanistan" [3] in what was part of what anti-Semites believed to be a global conspiracy against Islam by the West, or so it was thought to be in the first decade of the 21 st century. Perhaps the more glaring aspect of the problem is the death of thousands of local Thai people in the South that include school-children in their schools during classes, teachers, religious teachers, Buddhist monks, Buddhist religious students, farmers, security personnel, Islamic teachers, Muslim security volunteers (state) from the villages, police officers and their families, and the destruction of parts of local villages.
