This study contributes to the understanding of interest development in second language learning. ... more This study contributes to the understanding of interest development in second language learning. It describes the conditions which trigger students' situational interest in learning English as a second language, and how temporary situational interest contributes to the development of more stable individual interest. The data are gathered from two Indonesian students on an MA Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) programme at a UK university, through the use of introspective, semi-structured interviews. The key findings are: significant conditions triggering interest in learning English as an L2 were associated with external factors which caused a highly emotional impact; and the person-oriented situational interest provided an ideal model, which maintained the learner's interest through every phase of interest development, and supported them through challenges and difficulties.

Kaligrafi islam merupakan salah satu media da'wah yang memiliki nilai pendidikan. Oleh karena itu artikel ini ingin mengulas hasil karya kaligrafi mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Institut Agama Islam Negeri Ponorogo dalam mata kuliah Pembelajaran Seni dan Budaya di Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Penulisan ini adalah kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Penulis mengolah data dimulai dengan studi pustaka, merumuskan tema, membuat kata kunci dan merumuskan hasil analisis kedalam bentuk deskriptif. Kesimpulan hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa karya kaligrafi mahasiswa Jurusan Pendidikan Guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Institut Agama Islam Negeri Ponorogo bertemakan lafadz Asmaul Husna dan Ayat-ayat suci Al-Qur'an memiliki nilai-nilai pendidikan yang terkandung didalamnya. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari pemilihan lafadz, arti lafadz, pemilihan khat, pemilihan warna dan teknik pewarnaan yang digunakan. Kata Kunci: nilai pendidikan, seni, kaligrafi.

Dusun Ngagel salah satu lokasi yang menjadi tempat untuk melakukan kegiatan pengabdian masyarkat, terletak di Desa Dolopo Kecamatan Dolopo Kabupaten Madiun merupakan wilayah dusun yang berada di pinggir jalan raya dengan area pertanian yang luas serta mayoritas penduduk Dusun Ngagel memiliki lahan pekarangan rumah yang tidak terlalu sempit dan tidak terlalu luas, hal ini menjadi potensi dalam memanfaatkan pekarang rumah yang ada dengan mengembangkan budidaya hortikultura di dusun tersebut. Social media has become an integral part of life, including in education. This study investigates... more Social media has become an integral part of life, including in education. This study investigates the effectiveness of using social media as learning media to improve students' English as a Foreign Language (EFL) skills from the learners' perspective. The research covers two fundamental issues: the extent to which social media affect students' language skills and how social media can improve students' English language skills. The research was done at three universities in Indonesia. A questionnaire was distributed to 45 undergraduate students enrolled in the Department of Art Education. Results show that Art Education students believe that social media improves their English language skills positively. They also reported that students use a lot of social media in learning EFL through various activities, for instance, by describing their artwork in English. The findings also reveal what kind of social media which have been frequently used as English learning media. Therefore, social media can be one of the learning media for EFL students to improve their English language skills.

This research method was a descriptive survey expecting to discover the target and learning needs related to online learning. This study used a questionnaire distributed three distinctive times to 572 students of the Islamic Banking department at the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Ponorogo from 2020 to 2021. The observation was also used to support the data. The results discovered students' preference on the platforms used to support online learning, whether it was a virtual tool to replace in-person teaching or the learning management system, the effective duration of virtual meetings, language used and learning activities in the teaching and learning process. An English program has important roles in higher education because it can support the General Cou... more An English program has important roles in higher education because it can support the General Course of English, a compulsory subject aimed to make all of the students from different department understand the references related to their discipline, communicate about their field widely, and encourage their study properly. This is supported by the ineffective implementation of General Course of English today because of several reasons such as the use of general English as the materials that is not suit with the purpose of each study program, for instance Elementary School Teacher Education. Therefore, this research is conducted to describe the needs of students, the materials/topics, the vocabulary that should be learned, and the appropriate English program for Elementary School Teacher Education students. The results show that English is important especially in developing their knowledge in order to comprehend many references which are written in English. Hence, the developed materials in the program focused on reading skills.
