Several studies on benefits of Value Chain integration have focused on comparing the ICM ratios (i.e. the cycle time for flow of Information, Cost and Material). Past studies have demonstrated that integration of the members of the Value Chain results in the improvement in productivity and profitability of organizations. However, such integration is operational in nature and results in incremental/ differential improvement. But the fundamental success of the value chain would depend on the mode of relationship between the members. The mode of relationship is fundamental to the design of the value chain. The objective of this article is to identify appropriate factors, which would indicate the mode of relationship between value chain partners and develop a "Decision Support Strategy Matrix" to facilitate appropriate choice of relationship. Value chain integration takes place over a period of time and to varying degrees based on the relative size, scope, ownership, and stakeholders' interest. The value chain partnership mode decision matrix has been applied to develop the strategy of south Asia's largest steel company. Finally, the implications for practices and scope of future research are identified in this paper. This research article is a blend of theoretical framework and practical application for managers.

The manufacturing and food supply chains are significantly contributing to the large-scale carbon emissions. Beef supply chain is one of the segments of food industry having considerable carbon footprint throughout its supply chain. The major emissions are occurring at beef farms in the form of methane and nitrous oxide gases. The other carbon hotspots in beef supply chain are abattoir, processor, logistics and retailer. There is huge amount of pressure from government authorities to all the business firms to cut down carbon emissions. The different stakeholders of beef supply chain especially small and medium sized stakeholders, lack in technical and financial resources to optimize and measure carbon emissions at their end. There is no integrated system, which could address this issue for the entire beef supply chain. Keeping the same in mind, in this paper, an integrated system is proposed using Cloud Computing Technology (CCT) where all stakeholders of beef supply chain can minimize and measure carbon emission at their end within reasonable expenses and infrastructure. The integrated approach of mapping the entire beef supply chain by a single cloud will also improve the coordination among its stakeholders. The system boundary of this study will be from beef farms to retailer involving logistics, abattoir and processor in between. The efficacy of proposed system is demonstrated in a simulated case study.

In our research we start from a structured representation of requirements and components using the Systems Modeling Language (SysML), and based on specific set of rules written in Prolog, we partially automate the process of architecture design. This methodology is part of the Requirements-Driven Design Automation (RDDA) framework that we develop for component-based system development.

Machine loading is one of the most important issues that is interlinked with the efficiency and utilization of FMS. The machine loading problem is formulated in order to minimize the system unbalance and maximize the throughput, considering the job sequencing, optional machines and technological constraints. The performance of ...

With shifting consumer tastes and new models of vehicles entering market at a shorter period of time, reverse logistics are becoming a necessity. In this paper, we propose a multi–criteria decision model using Analytic Network Process (ANP) to evaluate alternatives of reverse logistics found in automobile industries. This paper aims to quantify supply chain agility on the bases of agility attributes and sub-attributes. Using the graph theoretic approach, interdependencies at system and subsystem levels were visualised along with their contribution to the overall supply chain agility. The proposed model was evaluated for two supply chains from the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector. The framework developed in this paper can help in quantifying and analysing the dynamics between different variables and sub-variables of an agile supply chain. Future research can improve upon the suggested method by using data from other supply chains.

A neural networks-based tabu search method, namely EXTS, is proposed for the ow shop scheduling. Unlike the other tabu search-based methods, the proposed approach helps diminishing the tabu e ect in an exponential way rather than most commonly used way of diminishing it in a sudden manner. On the basis of the conducted tests, some rules are evolved to set the values for di erent parameters. The e ectiveness of the proposed method is tested with 23 problems selected from literature. The computational results indicate that the proposed approach is e ective in terms of reduced makespan for the attempted problems.

In this paper, this problem is formulated as a non-linear 0-1 programming model in which the distance between the machines is sequence dependent. An ant algorithm has been developed to solve this problem. A technique is proposed to e ciently implement the proposed algorithm. The performance of the proposed heuristic is tested over a number of problems selected from the literature. Computational results indicate that the proposed approach is more e ective compared to many existing algorithms in this area.

One of the important problems faced by the top management in the computer hardware industries is the evaluation of various alternatives for end-of-life (EOL) computers. Analytic network process (ANP) based decision model presented in this paper structures the problem related to options in reverse logistics for EOL computers in a hierarchical form and links the determinants, dimensions, and enablers of the reverse logistics with alternatives available to the decision maker. In the proposed model, the dimensions of reverse logistics for the EOL computers have been taken from four perspectives derived from balanced scorecard approach, viz. customer, internal business, innovation and learning, and finance. The proposed approach, therefore, links the financial and non-financial, tangible and intangible, internal and external factors, thus providing a holistic framework for the selection of an alternative for the reverse logistics operations for EOL computers. Many criteria, sub-criteria, determinants, etc. for the selection of reverse logistics options are interrelated. The ability of ANP to consider interdependencies among and between levels of decision attributes makes it an attractive multi-criteria decision-making tool. Thus, a combination of balanced scorecard and ANP-based approach proposed in this paper provides a more realistic and accurate representation of the problem for conducting reverse logistics operations for EOL computers.
