Blood related operations are considered as one of the important components of the health services. This paper presents a bi-objective mixed integer linear programming model for dynamic location-allocation of blood facilities that integrates strategic and tactical decisions. Due to the epistemic uncertain nature of strategic decisions, in order to cope with the inherent uncertainties, a robust possibilistic programming approach is applied to the proposed model. Finally, to test the applicability of the proposed model, sensitivity analysis and some numerical examples are being proposed.

Selecting proper location for Glycyrrhiza farms is very important in obtaining the best quality i... more Selecting proper location for Glycyrrhiza farms is very important in obtaining the best quality in Glycyrrhiza cultivation and at the other hand, optimized capacity planning can cause significant reduction in cultivation costs. In this paper, we consider economic factors, social effects, cultivation conditions, and environmental issues for Location Optimization and Capacity Planning (LOCP) of Glycyrrhiza. Fuzzy principal component analysis (PCA) is used to address the problem complexity. Next, we develop a multiple objective mathematical model to calculate the amount of land assigned for Glycyrrhiza cultivation in each area. Then, we use epsilon-constraint method for solving the model. Finally, the proposed approach is applied in the country of Iran. Results illustrate which provinces are the best for Glycyrrhizae cultivation. Moreover, the optimized amount of Glycyrrhizae cultivation in each area is identified, using the mathematical model suggested here.

Research paper thumbnail of A solution algorithm for integrated production-inventory-routing of perishable goods with transshipment and uncertain demand

Complex & Intelligent Systems, 2021

Supply and distribution management of blood products is a challenging task due to their short lif... more Supply and distribution management of blood products is a challenging task due to their short lifespan. The problem is even more sophisticated considering uncertain demand for these products. This paper addresses integrated inventory-routing of blood in a supply chain network consisting of a single supplier and a group of blood centers. Transshipment among blood centers is allowed to decrease the cost of excess inventory and shortage of goods. A mathematical model is developed that decides on the optimal quantity of supplied blood, delivery plan, inventory level, and quantity of products transshipped between blood centers with the objective of minimizing total costs. In addition, a robust optimization approach is adopted to deal with uncertainty in demand. Since the proposed model is NP-hard, a heuristic solution algorithm is developed that improves solution quality by determining the most efficient change in vehicle routes in each search stage. The efficiency of the proposed algori...

Research paper thumbnail of A Computational Method for Measuring Transport Related Carbon Emissions in a Healthcare Supply Network under Mixed Uncertainty: An Empirical Study

This research presents a computational method for measuring transport related carbon emissions in a healthcare supply network. The network configuration significantly impacts carbon emissions. First, a multi-objective mathematical programing model is developed for designing a healthcare supply network in the form of a two-graph location routing problem under demand and fuel consumption uncertainty. Objective functions are minimizing total cost and minimizing total fuel consumption. In the presented model, the demand of each customer must be completely satisfied in each time period, and backlog is not permitted. The number and capacity of vehicles are determined, and vehicles are heterogeneous. Furthermore, fuel consumption depends on traveling distance, vehicle and road conditions, and the load of a vehicle. The centroid method is applied to face demand uncertainty. Next, a multi-objec...

Research paper thumbnail of Reducing the Bullwhip effect in a supply chain network by application of optimal control theory

RAIRO - Operations Research, 2018

Controlling the bullwhip effect and reducing the propagated inventory levels throughout the suppl... more Controlling the bullwhip effect and reducing the propagated inventory levels throughout the supply chain layers has an important role in reducing the total inventory costs of a supply chain. In this study, an optimal controller that considers demand as control variable is designed to dampen propagated inventory fluctuations for each node throughout the supply chain network. The model proves to be very useful in revealing the dynamic characteristics of the chain and provides a proper interface to study decisions taken into account at each node of the supply chain in different periods by decision makers (DMs). In the proposed approach, two feedback loops and online updated values of net stock quantities are used for calculation of the orders. To investigate the efficiency of the proposed approach, a real case of bicycle industry is conducted. The acquired results justify the efficiency of the proposed approach in controlling and dampening the bullwhip effect and reducing inventory lev...

The concept of agile manufacturing has been proposed in response to these challenges for companies. This paper copes with the strategic and tactical level decisions in agile supply chain network design. An efficient mixed-integer linear programming model that is able to consider the key characteristics of agile supply chain such as direct shipments, outsourcing, different transportation modes, discount, alliance (process and information integration) between opened facilities, and maximum waiting time of customers for deliveries is developed. In addition, in the proposed model, the capacity of facilities is determined as decision variables, which are often assumed to be fixed. Computational results illustrate t...
