It is important to udnerstand the interaction of the demand and supply side policies on measures of access to care and health status. PURPOSE To examine whether effects of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Medicaid expansions on access to care and health status are moderated by state scope of practice (SOP) laws for nurse practitioners. METHODS Using data from the 2011 to 2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, the study used a difference-in-differences design that compared outcome changes between expansion and non-expansion states and evaluated whether these changes differed by state SOP laws. DISCUSSION Following Medicaid expansion, forgoing a needed doctor's visit due to cost declined more in expansion states with full SOP laws than states with reduced SOP laws by 3.0 percentage-points in years 1 to 3 after the expansion (p < .05). Furthermore, completing a routine checkup with a doctor increased more in expansion states with full SOP laws by 3.2 percentage-points in 4 to 6 years (p < .05). CONCLUSION The ACA Medicaid expansions were associated with larger gains in certain access measures in states with full SOP laws.

This study examines the effects of ACA Medicaid expansion on access and health status of poor adults aged 60-64 years. Research Design and Methods The study employs a difference-in-differences design comparing states that expanded Medicaid in 2014 under the ACA and non-expansion states over six years post expansion. The data are from the 2011-2019 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System for individuals aged 60–64 years below the Federal Poverty Level. Results Having any health care coverage rate increased by 8.5 percentage-points (p<0.01), while the rate of forgoing a needed doctor’s visit due to cost declined by 6.6 percentage points (p<0.01). Similarly, rates of having a personal doctor/provider and completing a routine checkup increased by 9.1 (p<0.01) and 4.8 (p<0.1) percentage-points, respective...

Many refugees, after their traumatic experiences leaving Myanmar, experience mental health problems. OBJECTIVES To identify the prevalence of posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) among displaced Rohingya adults and investigate the association of predisplacement abuse and postdisplacement factors with PTSSs.

It is one of the most common disorders in maxillofacial region. The usual complain of the patients with this syndrome are pain in the area of the jaw and associated muscles, eating problem, chewing and locking of the jaw. It is more common in female than male. Its etiology is not yet well established. However its successful management depends on identification and controlling of the etiological factors.J Bangladesh Coll Phys Surg 2017; 35(3): 133-141

The success of cancer control in rural areas depends on the ability of the health care system and workforce to identify and manage cases properly at early stages. Community Health Workers (CHW) can play a vital role in this process. The present study aims to assess cancer related Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) among 2 categories of CHWs - Community Health Care Providers (CHCP) and Health Assistants (HA) in rural Bangladesh. Methods A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire from July 2019 to June 2020. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to determine the sample. One Upazilla Health Complex (UHC) from each of the eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh were randomly chosen as study sites, from which 325 CHCPs and HAs were in the final sample. Multivariate logistic regression models were developed to determine the association between KAP scores a...

It is more commonly observed in middle aged patients & postmenopausal women. It often affects tongue, cheek, lip, hard & soft palate. Usually symptoms are better observed in morning, worsen during the day and typically subside at night. The condition is multifactorial origin, often idiopathic and its etiopathogenesis remain largely enigmatic. Associated medical conditions may include neurologic and metabolic disorder, gastrointestinal, urogenital as well as drug reactions. BMS are of two types, primary & secondary. Primary BMS is essential or idiopathic where secondary BMS is caused by local, systemic and/or psychological factors. Clinical diagnosis depends on the careful history taking, physical examinations and laboratory findings. Vitamin, Zinc or Hormone replacement therapy has been found to be effective with deficiency of the corresponding factors. The drug therapy with alpha-lipoic acid, capsaicin, clonazepam, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants may be effective in symptomatic treatment of BMS. But the treatment is still unsatisfactory and there is no definitive cure.
