Principal Component Analysis (PCA) distinguished some clusters based on the relative proportion of major compounds, such as hexadecanoic acid, hexahydrofarnesyl acetone, phytol, E-caryophyllene, and caryophyllene oxide, which were identified in all species studied by both isolation methods. In addition to these compounds, germacrene D, δ-selinene, and eicosane were also identified in five samples from dry habitats isolated using ME. Allo-aromadendrene and β-ionone are particularly abundant in five species from wet habitats isolated by both methods. The peculiarities of Veronica species from moderate habitats isolated with HD are benzene acetaldehyde, n-nonanal, and the identification of significant compounds from the hydrocarbon class, while the peculiarity of ME is (E)-β-damascenone...

These species are not distinguished in the practice in Croatia. The aim of the article was to determine distinguishing traits between these introduced North American ash species based on morphological traits of samaras. Reliable determination is the necessary precondition for successful forest management of plantations of these two species. Materials and Methods: Samaras were collected from 50 trees in Croatian plantations on 5 localities (Karlovac, Dugo Selo, \ur|evac, Batina, Gunja), and from 3 voucher trees of F. americana and from 1 voucher tree of F. pennsylvanica. The following traits were measured: length of samara, length and width of samara wing, length and width of seed cavity, and the length of wing along the cavity. The results were evaluated using UPGMA method of cluster analysis with Euclidean distance (D E). Results: The most variable trait was absolute length of wing along seed cavity with coefficient variability (CV) from 8.38% to 23.41%, while the least variable trait was the ratio between the length of seed cavity and the length of samara (CV = 3.64-7.84%). Samaras from Croatian plantations showed similarity with F. pennsylvanica. Cluster analysis separated voucher trees of F. americana from trees from Croatian plantations of North American ash species, while the tree of F. pennsylvanica fitted among the trees from Croatian plantations. Conclusions: Only the presence of F. pennsylvanica in Croatian plantations was confirmed.

(subsp. depauperata, subsp. holosteum and subsp. scopulorum), P. lagopus L., P. lanceolata L., and P. maritima L. Hot water extraction (HWE) was applied for the isolation of iridoid substances. Significant differences appeared between the iridoid contents in the examined species. The yield of aucubin and catalpol was up to 0.27% and 1.81% of the dry mass of the leaves, respectively. Besides aucubin and catalpol, two related compounds were determined in the plant samples.

Special attention was paid to the wet oxidation procedure for the sample dissolution. The proposed procedure involved microwave-assisted sample digestion using a mixture of HNO3/H2O2. Wild specimens generally had a higher content of selenium, with concentrations of 0.030-0.095 mg/kg of the dry drug. Cultivated plants contained 0.020-0.055 mg Se/kg

The content of TF was 0.37–1.13 %, 0.18–0.52 %, and 0.04–0.31 % in leaves, flowers and stems, while the content of TPA was 1.58–3.43 %, 1.71–3.26 %, and 1.50–2.92 % in the same organs (leaves, flowers, stems). The soil was characterized by very high content of organic matter (4.19–36.26 %) and by high variability in the content of CaCO3 (from below the limit of quantification to 50.59 %). pH (in 1 M solution of KCl) was 6.59–7.33, while the content of nitrogen was 0.33–0.70 %. The content of P2O5 and K2O was 1.22–11.09 mg per 100 g of soil and 26.61–125...

Research paper thumbnail of Determination of Aucubin and Catalpol in Plantago Species by Micellar Electrokinetic Chromatography

(subsp. depauperata, subsp. holosteum and subsp. scopulorum), P. lagopus L., P. lanceolata L., and P.

Research paper thumbnail of Determination of Selenium in Teucrium Species by Hydride Generation Atomic Absorption Spectrometry

Zeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 2003

Special attention was paid to the wet oxidation procedure for the sample dissolution. The proposed procedure involved microwave-assisted sample digestion using a mixture of HNO3/H2O2. Wild specimens generally had a higher content of selenium, with concentrations of 0.030-0.095 mg/kg of the dry drug. Cultivated plants contained 0.020-0.055 mg Se/kg
