However, planning a way to take into account all the current factors is only achievable with an adequate comprehension of how the current business models answer this challenge. This scenario has prompted many researchers to conduct studies related to business models and the air transport industry. This article maps the academic production in these two areas, to define the main periodicals, authors and geographic regions covered, based on a bibliometric study with qualitative indicators. From 1990 to 2012, we found nearly 19 thousand articles in the ISI Web of Knowledge and then refined the selection of relevant articles to about 500, to which we applied the same qualitative indexes. The results indicate that in the past 5 years the number of scientific articles has grown at a reasonable pace and that the authors that have published the most articles on these themes come from research centers in the United Kingdom, United States and Taiwan.

Despite that, regulation of international air transport lacks the desired agility and flexibility that could position the industry as a real economic multiplier and a true political and cultural integrator. In terms, of governance, international air transport has been outpaced by several other major industries whose regulations are far more modern, the authors write. In the Americas, some tentative liberalized air transport agreements have been signed, including open skies agreements between the U.S. and several Latin American countries, such as Chile and Costa Rica. Multilateral agreements also have been signed, such as the Fortaleza agreement of 1996. However, to date, no agreement has appeared to fulfill the conditions of a true instrument...

A brief historical overview of the country's airline fleet is presented, demonstrating the need for its renewal while analyzing the periods in which a new breed of aircraft was put into service by the major carriers operating in the SE region. The trend of operating the classic regional jets plus the forthcoming entry into service of the large regional jets in several point-to-point routes are presented along with the carriers' experience of operating the former aircraft in several high-capacity and medium-range routes. The article focuses on the ability of four of the Southeast's major airports to cope with the fleet modernization, since the region studied is the country's most developed socioeconomically with the largest demand for air transportation. This makes the impacts much more...
