The as-prepared sample was characterized by various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The SEM micrographs show formation of Ag2O nanoparticles within 50–60 nm in size which have been homogeneously dispersed on the sawdust surface. The as-prepared Ag2O/SD NC were used to remove Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions. To determine the optimal conditions for adsorption, the effect of important parameters such as pH, contact time, initial concentration of Cr(VI), amount of adsorbent, temperature and ionic strength were investigated. It was found that the Ag2O/SD NC showed a high Cr(VI) removal capacity of 20.75 mg/g at 25 o C. The experimental data were well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir isotherm model. Thermodynamic studies for the adsorption system were calculated and s...

Characterization of the nano sized adsorbent particles was carried out using SEM and XRD techniques. Systemic adsorption experiments were performed in batch systems and the optimum conditions were obtained. The effects of pH, contact time, adsorbent mass, temperature, ionic strength and initial concentration of arsenic were investigated on kinetics and equilibrium of the adsorption. Thermodynamic parameters and adsorption kinetics were studied in detailed to know the nature and mechanism of adsorption. Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption process followed pseudo second order kinetic model. The thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG⁰, ΔS⁰ and ΔH⁰ were calculated, and it was found that the reaction was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. Adsorption equilibrium was studied using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. It was o...

The α-Fe2O3NPs were synthesized by the coprecipitation method on sawdust. The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). SEM micrographs showed the formation of α-Fe2O3NPs within 40-60 nm in size, which were homogeneously dispersed on the sawdust surface. The adsorption experiments were performed in a batch system. The optimum pH value for the maximum removal of As(III) was found at a value of about 7. The monolayer adsorption amounts calculated based on the Langmuir adsorption model were 83.33 and 58.80 mgg for α-Fe2O3 and α-Fe2O3/SD, respectively. The kinetic data obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The high adsorption capacity was attributed to the high surface area of α-Fe2O3NPs and good dispersion α-Fe2O3NPs on the sawdust substra...

Removal of nitrite ions from aqueous solutions by protonated poly(N,N-dimethylamino ethylmethacry... more Removal of nitrite ions from aqueous solutions by protonated poly(N,N-dimethylamino ethylmethacrylate) hydrogels (P(DMAEMA)) was investigated. We have shown that polycationic and pendant secondary amine group containing P(DMAEMA) hydogels is very efficient and highly selective for the removal of nitrite ions from aqueous solutions at even in very high concentrations. Adsorption studies have shown that pH of the nitrite solution has influence on the nitrite ion uptake capacity of P(DMAEMA) hydrogels. The adsorption capacity of hydrogels had been increased up to 3100 mg NO À1 2 /g dry gel, by changing pH of the solution. The results of the adsorption studies showed that the interaction between nitrite ions and quaternized amine groups agree with the Langmuir-type isotherm.

Electropolymerisation reaction for preparing of As(V) sensor electrode was carried via applying a constant potential of 0.90 V on PGA as working electrode versus saturated calomel electrode (SCE) in a solution containing 0.40 M pyrrole and 0.030 M Na2HAsO4 as electrolyte. The constructed electrode displayed a linear and near Nernstian response (28.25 ± 0.30 mV/decade) to As(V) ions in the concentration range of 5.0 × 10−5 to 1.0 × 10−1 M. A detection limit of 2.8 × 10−5 M and a fast response time (≤10 s) was observed during measurements. The working pH range of the electrode was 6.5–10.0 and lifetime of the sensor was at least 60 days.

One of today's environmental challenges is the excessive use of dyes for industrial and domestic activities which it contaminates the ground and surface water; therefore, it is important to remove these dangerous organic compounds from water and wastewater prior to discharge into the environment (2-5). Water pollution by synthetic organic dyes used in textile, cosmetics, pulp and paper industries etc., is mainly regarded as environmental and ecological critical issues worldwide (4-7). These industries produce considerable unfixed dyes that in turn impart strong color, expelling of these dyes into water bodies, produce a large quantity of dyeing wastewater which needs to treatment before being discharged into waterways. Due to the aromatic structures, synthetic dyes have chemical stability; thus, they are difficult to biodegrade, oxidizing and photo degradation, giving water undesirable color, diminish light penetration and oxygen gas solubility, so, photosynthetic reactions of aquatic plants, will be decreased, having toxic effects on human health (8,9).

Polyaniline was synthesized electrochemically (cyclic voltammetry method) onto a micro pencil graphite electrode (0.7 mm diameter) in the presence of HCl and diphenylcarbazide (termed as (PGE/PAni/DPC). Some initial experiments were performed in order to find out the optimized conditions for preparation of the introduced Cr (VI) sensor electrode. The plot of E vs. log [Cr (VI)], showed a linear response in the range from 1.0 × 10 −6 to 1.0 × 10 −1 M. High repeatability with the detection limit of 8.0 × 10 −7 M was obtained.

The effect of experimental parameters such as membrane composition, nature and amount of plasticizer, lipophilic additives and thickness of PANI film on the potential response of the pH electrode was investigated. The electrode has an apparent Nernstian response slope of 54.5 ± 0.4 mV pH −1 (at 20 • C). The equilibrium water content of the electrode was determined in pure water and NaCl solution (I = 0.1 mol Kg −1). The electrode had low electric resistance, good potential stability and reproducibility (±1.5 mV, n = 10). It has a rapid potential response to changes of pH (15 s). The excellent performance in terms of linearity, stability and fast response makes this device suitable for pH measurements in highly acidic media.

The polymer was synthesized directly on the surface of sawdust, which has previously soaked in monomer solution using ferric chloride as chemical oxidant. The sorption experiments were performed on both batch and column systems under simple open circuit conditions. The effects of some important parameters such as pH, initial concentration, sorbent dosage, and exposure time on uptake of silver ion were investigated. The treatment of the data was also carried out using both Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherms. To find out the possibility of the regeneration and reuse of the exhausted adsorbent, desorption studies were also performed. It was found that sawdust modified with polythiophene is an efficient system for uptake or recovery of the silver ions from aqueous solutions. V
