This study assesses and compares university and non-university hospitals’ efficiency and productivity in Kerman provinces, Iran. The data of 19 selected hospitals, two years before and two years after Health Transformation Plan, was collected in this cross-sectional study. These data included the variables of physician and nurse number, and active beds as inputs and bed occupancy rate and inpatient admission adjusted with the length of stay as outputs. Data Envelopment Analysis method used to measure hospital efficiency. Malmquist Productivity Index is used to measure the efficiency change model before and after the plan. The efficiency and effect of the plan on hospitals’ efficiency and productivity were assessed using R software. The results indicated that all hospitals’ average efficiency before the HTP was 0.843 and after the HTP was increased to 0.874. However, it was not significant (P&g...

In this study we aimed to identify the age of natural menopause and its related factors in a large-scaled population-based cohort study in Iran. Methods: In this study, we utilized a subset of data collected in enrollment phase of Tabari cohort study (TCS). Reproductive history and other related data were collected using structural questionnaire. Blood samples were collected form all participants. We analyzed data using chi-square, independent t-test and ANOVA as well as multivariate linear regression model. Results: Among all participants of Tabari cohort, 2753 were menopause women. The mean age of natural and induced menopause was 49.2±4.7 and 43.2 ± 6.4 respectively (P = 0.001). Our finding showed that number of pregnancy, breastfeeding duration, education, residency, thyroid disease and body mass index affect age of menopause. After adjustment for confounding variables, number of pregnancy remained significantly associ...

Methods: This scoping review was conducted using datasets of Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed, and search engines of Google, Google Scholar, and ProQuest. Results: 52 studies were included, and 32 codes in Micro, Meso, and Macro level, were obtained. Micro-level criteria had the highest frequency. Among the models used in the reviewed studies, social network analysis, Diagnosis of Sustainable Collaboration, Bergen, and logic models had the highest frequency. Among the indicators studied, the number of participants and the level of collaboration as well as its sustainability were the most frequent indicators. Conclusion: The findings identified the most important and widely used criteria, models, and indicators of intersectoral collaboration in health promotion which can be useful for de...

Asymmetric information in the insurance market means that the insurer has less information about the health status of the insured person than the insured person him/herself and this leads to waste of treatment resources due to moral hazards. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of moral hazards in the health insurance

This study aimed to project Iran’s HCEs by the sources of funds until 2030. Methods: The structural macro-econometric modeling in the EViews 9 software was employed to simulate and project Iran’s HCE by the sources of funds (government health expenditure [GHCE], social security organization health expenditure [SOHCE], out-of-pocket [OOP] payments, and prepaid private health expenditure [PPHCE]). The behavioral equations were estimated by autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) approach. Results: If there is a 5%-increase in Iran’s oil revenues, the mean growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) is about 2% until 2030. By this scenario, the total HCE (THCE), GHCE, SOHCE, OOP, and PPHCE increases about 30.5%, 25.9%, 34.4%, 31.2%, and 33.9%, respectively. Therefore, the THCE as a percentage of the G...

This study aimed to investigate inappropriate admission and hospitalization at Afzalipour Hospital of Kerman, Iran. Inappropriate admission and hospitalization were assessed via a cross-sectional study on 400 patients in Kerman Afzalipour Hospital, Kerman, Iran in 2015. The Iranian version of the Appropriateness Assessment Protocol was used for data collection. Chi-square tests and logistic regression were used to analyze the data. The rate of inappropriate admissions and hospitalization were 7.6% and 9% respectively. There was no significant relationship between inappropriate admissions and any of the studied variables; however, there was a significant relationship between inappropriate hospitalization and age, length of stay and hospital departments. If standard measures of admission and hospitalization execute correctly, unnecessary hospitalization rate can be...
