Several risk factors associated with early relaparotomy after liver transplantation include pediatric end-stage liver disease (PELD) score, warm ischemia time (WIT), and cold ischemia time (CIT). Our study investigated the incidence and indications of early relaparotomy in postoperative pediatric LDLT recipients and compared the outcomes with patients who did not require relaparotomy.MethodsA retrospective cohort study of pediatric LDLT recipients from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, Indonesia, was collected from 2010 to August 2022. Indications for early relaparotomy were investigated. Factors analyzed in the early relaparotomy group compared with the nonrelaparotomy group included intraoperative blood loss, surgery duration, CIT, WIT, and PELD score.Re...

This study aims to present patients’ characteristics who had undergone oncological reconstructive surgery at the Department of Surgical Oncology, Dharmais National Cancer Center. Methods: This descriptive study identified patients’ characteristics who underwent oncological reconstructive surgery, their cancer types, and their therapies. All data were obtained from surgery registration and medical records from January 2019 to January 2020. Data were then presented in number and percentage. Results: A total of 174 patients had undergone oncological reconstructive surgery within one year. The mean age of all patients was 48.2 ± 16.7 years old. Most patients were female (72.1%), with breast cancer making up most cases (43.7%). Most of the participants also underwent mastectomy (42.1%), which was later followed by various reconstruction types. Sixty pa...

In all cases, less than 1% found as the cause of intestinal obstruction. However, delayed treatment of internal hernia may lead to necrosis of the intestines. Neonates with congenital heart disease may be at increased risk of morbidity and mortality than another concurrent disease. A male infant was delivered with a Cesarean section due to a congenital disorder of umbilical hernia, ventricular septal defect, and aortic transposition. The infant was born full-term with a 2,515 g birth weight and 3, 5, 7 APGAR score, positive ventilation, and intubation proceeded. Prostaglandin E1 10 mcg/kg/minute, packed blood cell, and thrombocyte concentrate was administered preoperatively. The patient underwent laparotomy for intestinal resection on day-3; the necrotic intestine was found starting 70 cm from ligament of Treitz to midsection of the transverse colon. Postoperatively, the stoma was vital, and we noted its production. The infant died one day1...

Postnatal oral spermine has been shown in studies to improve intestinal maturation in rats and piglets. This study aimed to find out the efficacy of spermine in rabbits during gestation.Method: An experimental study was done in an unblinded, randomized manner on those treated with and without spermine administration. A morphological examination of hematoxylin–eosin-stained villi was performed under a light microscope with a focus on villi height. Data were subjected to analysis. Results: The median of the spermine-treated group was found to be higher at 24, 26, and 28 days than the non-spermine group, but was not significantly different. Conclusion: Oral spermine supplementation during gestation might improve intestinal villi height in immature rabbit intestines.

Her normal vital signs masked the presence of intestinal bleeding. An incidental finding at surgery of a haematomatous polypoid vascular growth of the ileum was subsequently confirmed to be cavernous haemangioma of the small bowel. Surgical resection was curative in this patient.
