The present work aimed to investigate the factors that motivate men and women between 18 and 30 years to practice physical exercises in weight gyms, and the factors that influence the withdrawal. The research methodology used was based on a cross-sectional field study, with descriptive characteristics, in which the data were presented in a quantitative and qualitative way, using as support, scientific works that came to contribute to the theme. The results obtained in the present research show us that for both the male public (58%) and the female public (72%), the identified extrinsic motivation of regulation is the most sought for the practice of physical exercise, due to their characteristics. individual benefits (physical, emotional and behavioral). From the results of this study, we can conclude that the main factor in the search of young people in general, for bodybuilding exercises is based on extrinsic motivation, due to the individual interests that exercise provides. The factor related to the dropout of the studied population was the search for bodybuilding to avoid feelings of failure and to seek physical exercise for influence or to please the people around them. Thus, individuals do not have a daily motivation, resulting in the abandonment of the practice. Demotivation was not observed in the present study.

However, its status on long-term hypertrophied myocardium has not been addressed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the expression of myocardial myostatin and its antagonist follistatin in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) with heart failure. Methods: Eighteen-month-old SHR were evaluated to identify clinical features of heart failure such as tachypnea/ labored respiration and weight loss. After heart failure was detected, rats were subjected to echocardiogram and euthanized. Age-matched normotensive Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats were used as controls. Myostatin and follistatin protein expression was assessed by Western blotting. Statistical analysis was performed by Student's t test. Results: All SHR (n = 8) presented right ventricular hypertrophy and five had lung congestion. SHR had left chambers hypertrophy and dilation (left atrial diameter: WKY 5.73 ± 0.59; SHR 7.28 ± 1.17 mm; p = 0.004; left ventricular (LV) diastolic diameter/body weight ratio: WKY 19.6 ± 3.1; SHR 27.7 ± 4.7 mm/kg; p = 0.001), and LV systolic dysfunction (midwall fractional shortening: WKY 34.9 ± 3.31; SHR 24.8 ± 3.20%; p = 0.003). Myocyte diameter (WKY 23.1 ± 1.50, SHR 25.5 ± 1.33 μm; p = 0.004) and myocardial interstitial collagen fraction (WKY 4.86 ± 0.01; SHR 8.36 ± 0.02%; p b 0.001) were increased in the SHR. Myostatin (WKY 1.00 ± 0.16; SHR 0.77 ± 0.23 arbitrary units; p = 0.035) and follistatin (WKY 1.00 ± 0.35; SHR 0.49 ± 0.18 arbitrary units; p = 0.002) expression was lower in SHR. Myostatin and follistatin expression negatively correlated with LV diastolic diameter-to-body weight ratio and LV systolic diameter, and positively correlated with midwall fractional shortening. Conclusion: Myostatin and follistatin protein expression is reduced in the long-term hypertrophied myocardium from spontaneously hypertensive rats with heart failure.

However, whether early aldosterone antagonism improves cardiac remodeling during persistent pressure overload is unsettled. We evaluated the effects of aldosterone antagonist spironolactone on cardiac remodeling in rats with ascending aortic stenosis (AS). Methods: Three days after inducing AS, weaning rats were randomized to receive spironolactone (AS-SPR, 20 mg/kg/day) or no drug (AS) for 18 weeks, and compared with sham-operated rats. Myocardial function was studied in isolated left ventricular (LV) papillary muscles. Statistical analyses: ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis tests.

Background: Interstitial collagen matrix increase and left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction... more Background: Interstitial collagen matrix increase and left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction are the most frequent cardiac alterations during aging. Whether changes are part of the aging process or induced by a sedentary life style is not clear. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of aerobic exercise on functional capacity, cardiac and myocardial function, and interstitial collagen matrix of aging rats. Methods: Male Wistar rats were assigned into three groups: 1) sedentary six-month-old rats (W6, n=24); 2) sedentary 21-month-old rats (W21-Sed, n=25); and 3) exercised 21-month-old rats (W21-Ex, n=20). Physical exercise was by treadmill for 12 weeks. In vivo cardiac evaluation was performed by Doppler echocardiography. Myocardial function was assessed in LV papillary muscle preparation. Total and soluble myocardial collagen concentrations were evaluated by spectrophotometry. Protein expression was analyzed by Western blot. Statistical analysis: ANOVA and Bonferroni or Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn. Results: Body weight was greater in W21-Sed and W21-Ex than W6. Before exercise, functional capacity did not differ between aged groups. After training, W21-Ex group ran farther and longer in treadmill than W21-Sed e W6, and W21-Sed presented worse physical capacity than W6. LV diastolic posterior wall, interventricular septum, and relative wall thicknesses were greater in W21-Sed and W21-Ex than W6, and did not differ between aged groups. E wave was lower in both aged groups than W6. E/E' ratio was lower in W21-Ex than W21-Sed. Isolated papillary muscle developed tension was higher in W21-Sed than W6; W21-Ex values did not differ from both W6 and W21-Sed groups. Time to peak tension was higher in W21-Sed and W21-Ex than W6 and did not differ between aged groups. The same results were observed after positive inotropic stimulation. Total collagen concentration was higher in W21-Sed and W21-Ex than W6 and did not differ between aged groups. Soluble collagen did not differ between groups. Type III collagen expression was higher in W21-Sed than W6; the W21-Ex group presented intermediary values that did not differ from W21-Sed or W6 groups. Type I collagen was similar between groups. Conclusion: Regular physical aerobic training improves functional capacity and left ventricular diastolic function and attenuates type III collagen myocardial accumulation in aged rats.

During the KTK test, the equilibrium and single-leg jumps tasks were observed for the dynamic balance and strength abilities of dominant or non-dominant lower limbs. In the lateral jumps task the velocity of the performer was observed in alternating the jumps realized with the feet together. The lateral transfer task sought to evaluate the laterality and spatial notion (SILVA JUNIOR, 2012; GORLA; ARAUJO; RODRIGUES, 2014). The aim of this study was to verify if the development of recreational practices could improve the motor development in ADHD patients. The values presented in the motor quotients (QM) originated from the absolute values obtained in the accomplishment of each task of the KTK test. Furthermore, these values were related to the reference table of the original KTK test, which takes into account the performance obtained in the tasks and the age of the performer. The present study is a case report of a 14-year-old student with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder accompanied by the Multidisciplinary Pedagogical Support Center (CEAPEM) in the city of Itapeva-SP. Recreation is an indispensable tool that explores motor skills during play, manipulation of objects and participation in games without any learning process, providing benefits for the individual with ADHD, such as cooperation, interaction with the group, respect for rules, and establishment of interpersonal, motor perceptive, cognitive, social and academic relationships (TINTORI; BAST; PITTA, 2010; SILVA, DAMATTO, 2018). Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurobehavioral disorder that results in attenuation of attention, characterized as a neuropsychiatric syndrome leading to inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity to the various environments and the daily action of the subject for less (AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION, 2013). The DSC-V (DSM-V) is a type of diagnosis for the type of association that falls within the first six symptoms of the syndrome and may vary the intensity of the disorder from individual to individual (AMERICAN PSYCHIATRIC ASSOCIATION,

Methods: Four months after inducing AS, Wistar rats were assigned into the groups Sham, AS, and AS treated with NAC (AS-NAC) and followed for eight weeks. Cardiac structure and function were evaluated by echocardiogram. Myocardial antioxidant enzymes activity was measured by spectrophotometry and malondialdehyde serum concentration by HPLC. Gene expression of NADPH oxidase subunits NOX2, NOX4, p22 phox, and p47 phox was assessed by real time RT-PCR and protein expression of MAPK proteins by Western blot. Statistical analyzes were performed with Goodman and ANOVA or Mann-Whitney Results: NAC restored myocardial total glutathione (Sham 20.8±3.00; AS 12.6±2.92; AS-NAC 17.6±2.45 nmol/g tissue; p<0.05 AS vs Sham and AS-NAC). Malondialdehyde serum concentration was lower in AS-NAC and myocardial lipid hydroperoxide was higher in AS (Sham 199±48.1; AS 301±36.0; AS-NAC 181±41.3 nmol/g tissue). Glutathione peroxidase activity was lower in AS than Sham. Echocardiogram showed LV concentric hypertrophy with systolic and diastolic dysfunction before and after treatment; no differences were observed between AS-NAC and AS groups. NAC reduced p-ERK and p-JNK protein expression, attenuated myocardial fibrosis, and decreased the frequency of right ventricular hypertrophy. Conclusion: N-acetylcysteine restores myocardial total glutathione, reduces systemic and myocardial oxidative stress, improves MAPK signaling, and attenuates myocardial fibrosis in aortic stenosis rats.

Four months later, rats were assigned to three groups: Sham (n=8), MI without treatment (n=8), and MI/NAC (MI treated with the antioxidant N‐acetylcysteine, 120 mg/kg/day, n=8). Rats with small MI were excluded. Six months after surgery, total and phosphorylated forms of MAPK (JNK and p38) and NF‐κB proteins were analyzed by Westen blot in soleus muscle.ResultsMI size did not differ between MI and MI/NAC groups (P>0.05; Student's t test). Total JNK, p‐p38 and p‐NF‐κB did not differ among the groups. Table shows the other Western blot results.ConclusionSkeletal muscle response to oxidative stress is combined with JNK and NF‐κB protein expression changes in rats with heart failure.
