This device operates on the principle of coplanar transmembrane pressure monitoring. Controlled transducer-insertion techniques applied inin vitro andin vivo studies yield a series of pressure curves which are described and analysed. Historically, the values and assumptions of Euro-Americans have formed the foundation for the law... more Historically, the values and assumptions of Euro-Americans have formed the foundation for the laws, policies, rules, and regulations of institutions. Those values have also been promoted and accepted as the standards, beliefs, and behaviors according to which all Americans should be evaluated. As the population demographics continue to become more ethnically and racially representative of the world in general, adherence to norms that ignore the experiences of other cultural groups will be detrimental to middle-class Euro-Americans and those of other cultural backgrounds. The systematic avoidance of the role of cultural values in crosscultural interactions limits information that can be used to resolve educational, health-related, legal, and psychosocial ills. Few empirical studies, however, discuss the role of racial or cultural variables in the psychosocial and socioeconomic experiences of African-American men. Research and theoretical articles that include this population primarily ask questions that address how this group differs from Euro-Americans. Most researchers have not considered the influence of cultural factors specific to African-Americans to understand those outcomes. Even fewer studies exist that examine interactions between values of American institutions and those of African-American men. The failure to consider cultural variables denies the historical and sociocultural meaning of being African-American in a Euro-American dominated society. Many of the attitudes, opinions, and beliefs of African-Americans have been shaped by racism, prejudice, and discrimination. Thcse socioplitical experiences, combined with historical traditions that date back to Africa, differentiate African-Americans from other racial and ethnic groups. An awareness of the cultural values that distinguish African-Americans as a racial group is essential to those who hope to develop and implement inter

The racism which survives today is a perpetuation of the values which supported slavery: issues of labelling and victim-blaming continue, and take their toll on minority populations. The 40 activists, clinicians and scholars who contribute chapters to this handbook are well qualified and experienced in their specialist fields and bring their unique insights and knowledge on Black Community Mental Health issues to a Handbook which will be of great value for students, trainees, academics and practitioners from multidisciplinary backgrounds. The authors have also been ably guided and organised by the Handbook's three editors (two from the US, one from the UK). Overall, there is much quality in the writing, many insights, and bases for further action.

Autism is a spectrum condition which can manifest differently in each diagnosed individual. There are core features necessary for an ASD diagnosis to be made. These include among other traits: poor eye contact, abnormality in body language: for example, gestures, difficulties with social communication and social interaction, often they exhibit repetitive patterns of behavior, have obsessional interests, rigid thinking patterns, and have an aversion to certain sounds and textures and an unusual interest in sensory satisfaction.

ABC-CLIO. 2018. 863p. ed. by Susan de-Gaia. photos. bibliog. index. ISBN 9781440848490. $198; ebk. ISBN 9781440848506. REL The study of world religions has been largely dominated by men (as has been the case with most disciplines), and only recently have modern scholars begun to explore the role of women. This timely, two-volume encyclopedia fills in the gaps regarding women's religious contributions. Edited by de-Gaia (philosophy & religion, Central Michigan Univ.), this work boasts a diverse range of contributors, including academics, religious leaders, healers, artists, and museum directors. De-Gaia emphasizes that the focus is women in religion as opposed to general religious studies, which have been examined in detail in many other resources. This book also serves to counter the misogyny commonly found in world religions. Chapters examine specific faiths (e.g., Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism) or eras and location (prehistoric religions, African religions), with thoughtful and comprehensive entries that include suggestions for further reading, resulting in a scholarly, much-needed work. VERDICT Essential for academic and religious institutions.-Dave Pugl,

The study included case studies of 51 programs in 10 U.S. cities as well as responses to a survey sent to 282 programs. Based on this data, the authors distill lessons from the programs: they cover what kids need, Promising Program Components, and Underlying Philosophies on Program Design. They also offer detailed descriptions on the barriers programs face. Appendices include the Mail Survey Instrument used, descriptions of the Site Visit Programs, and a list of site visit contacts and addresses.

Such data suggest that discrimination is still a problem within the NHS. Kline also found the NHS treats BME staff less favourably than white staff in their recruitment, promotion and career progression. Kline's findings suggest that NHS discriminatory practices favour white applicants and are a predictor of patient care. Kline also reported that these same BME staff were significantly more likely to be bullied at work. Much like those BME Kline reported in his study who were bullied, I was a victim of bullying in the NHS as well, so much so I decided to no longer work for the NHS and work privately. This is not an uncommon occurrence for people of colour-my colleagues who work for the NHS often complain how difficult it is to work in the NHS due to the constant bullying, harassment, abuse, and negative racialised interactions/communications between Blacks and whites (e.g. daily and constant insulting micro-aggressions in the workplace/training institutions, see further description of micro-aggression below) (Guttridge, 2020). The bullying is not always blatant but more often it is 'coded'/nonverbal-a look, stare, stance or being the last one in the queue constantly for admin support/ assistance, e.g. typing up assessments, letters, etc. Or it's the support staff's unwillingness ever it seems to help you in the same way they do with white staff who they often cannot do enough for. If you are a person of colour working in the NHS your work/contributions are valued less and you are usually criticised more. Many Black colleagues for these reasons despise working for the NHS. Beside Kline's research, where is the evidence for such claims? You see it with your own eyes every

The final chapter of the book, The Future of Education, authored by Brian Boggs, applies critical political theory for examining competing areas of educational policy in America i.e. local versus state control and traditional public schooling versus choice. This chapter demonstrates the interrelationship between political acts, praxis and policy, to highlight their influence on interactions, power and pedagogical approaches. A key theme of this book is the priority given to the lives and narratives of marginalised people in society. Their alternative and counter narratives can be applied by policymakers, scholars, students and curriculum writers innovatively as tools to decolonise the curriculum. This book provides fresh starting points for that theoretical reconceptualisation in advancing practice, knowledge and understanding.
