It has been previously reported that C4 forms association products with itself and with human 7S γ-globulin in the presence of C1s̄. Native C4 is known to complex with C2 in a reversible fashion. This reversible association of C2 and C4 is converted to a firm complex which is due to the proteolytic action of C1s̄. Finally, C4 is believed to react with receptor sites on antibody molecules as well as erythrocyte membrane receptors during immune hemolysis. Human IgG was covalently linked to Sepharose 6B under basic conditions by use of cyanogen bromide. The resultant Sepharosecoupled IgG was stored at 4°C with 0.005% sodium azide until ready for use. Approximately 1 mg of IgG was bound per 20 mg Sepharose. Crude C4 from a pseudoglobulin fraction of human serum and subsequently eluted from DEAE-cellulose at pH 7.3 was used for studies with insoluble IgG.

It seems to affect cells directly and causes an increased number of leukocytes to respond to the chemotactic factors at early time intervals. Spontaneous motility does not appear to be affected. Results of studies employing anti-C3 and anti-C5 sera seem to indicate that the chemotactic factor derived from C5 is involved in the C1 INH induced enhancement of chemotaxis. In fact, preliminary experiments utilizing trypsinactivated C3 as a chemotactic source indicate that C1 INH causes inhibition of chemotactic response to C3a. C1 INH is the first naturally occurring plasma component reported to cause enhanced chemotactic responsiveness.

Rather than forcing end users to continually self-authenticate via password pins or through other means on a time-interval basis [2–7], a system that continuously authenticates users provides a more frictionless relationship between a user's device and its physical security. Such a system, if effectively operating on a low-powered, unobtrusive, and secure basis, would make it viable for most consumer mobile devices. In this paper, we build upon our work in [1] to provide a novel authentication scheme that meets these requirements for a commonly adopted system. Our system, iSentinel, hopes to provide an unobtrusive, low-powered solution for detecting and responding to common theft scenarios by continuously authenticating mobile devices in use cases such...

Of all businesses and industries, emergency services generally have more knowledge, time and/or flexibility to exercise and actively participate in healthy lifestyles. Perhaps more emphasis should be placed on healthy living than on benefits that deal with the results of unhealthy lifestyles. Stop smoking, drink sensibly, eat a healthy diet and exercise. Until next time ... be safe!

The development and implementation of a back-to-work program is beneficial to everyone. Regardless of how an injury or related health issue occurs, returning the affected person back to his preexisting condition is paramount.

The ACCESS study evaluated four major coronagraph concepts under a common space observatory. This paper describes the high precision pointing control system (PCS) baselined for this observatory.

Efforts under the Volatile Organic Compound - Arid Integrated Demonstration Program (VOC-Arid ID) are directed at vapor extraction of carbon tetrachloride from the ground and its subsequent decomposition in the contaminated humid air stream. We are developing a mobile electron-beam driven plasma reactor for versatile efficient on-site decomposition of CC14 and other VOCs in carrier gases at atmospheric pressure. The decomposition of the VOCs could result in the generation of COâ, light hydrocarbons, and reactive chlorine compounds. The latter dissolve and/or dissociate in aqueous solutions.
