Respecting the sentiments of the artists' community, the paper argues why it is more ethical to model a structure than try and "manufacture" an artist by training the neural network to copy performances of artists. Indian Classical Music centers on the ragas, where emotion and devotion are both important and neither can be substituted by such "calculated artistry" which the ANN generated copies are ultimately up to.

Extreme Value Distribution family models are tried to capture the uncertainty of data and finally Generalized Extreme Value (GEV) distribution model is found as the best fitted distribution model. The GEV model satisfied the selection criteria [Anderson-Darling test (A-D test or Goodness of fit test) and Normality test (Q-Q plot)], which are adopted under the present study. The return levels are estimated for 5, 10, 50, 100 and 200 years which are consistently increasing for long run in future.

The argument or predictor is time which may or may not be the time of clock, i.e. , it could well be simply the instance represented by indices 1, 2, 3…which is certainly true for a sequence of notes in a raga depicting its melodic structure with some musical sense of completeness. The dependent variable is the pitch characterizing the note. The present study shows how an ARIMA model can effectively analyze the melodic structure of a North Indian raga. While the model itself is reserved for prediction, the lag of unity in the model also suggests a Markov chain of order one which can then be used to simulate the raga sequence on a computer. In this way our study supports both prediction and composition.

Research paper thumbnail of Stochastic Modeling for Rainfall in Humid Subtropical Monsoon Region of India

Rainfall is a phenomenon, which directly or indirectly affects all the sectors like agriculture, ... more Rainfall is a phenomenon, which directly or indirectly affects all the sectors like agriculture, insurance, industry and other allied fields. Modeling data that correspond to rainfall accumulated over long periods presents the challenging problem of dealing with a random variable that has a point mass at zero, which corresponds to dry periods that occur with positive probability. One-way to overcome a difficulty that it is assumes that the data correspond to a normal variate that has been truncated and transformed. The dry periods correspond to the (unobserved) negative values and the wet periods correspond to some power of the positive ones. This manuscript identified the more comprehensive pattern of yearly extreme rainfall behavior based on the Markov Chain models. For this purpose, we derived annual maximum daily rainfall from 1956 to 2006 and frequency distribution table formed. The class interval treated as states and then uncertainty under various states occupied by formation...

The art of music was, and still is, regarded as both holy and heavenly giving not only aesthetic pleasure but also inducing a joyful religious discipline. Emotion and devotion are the essential characteristics of Indian music from the aesthetic side. From the technical perspective, we talk about melody and rhythm. A raga, the nucleus of Indian classical music, may be defined as a melodic structure with fixed notes and a set of rules characterizing a certain mood conveyed by performance.. The strength of raga-based songs, although they generally do not quite maintain the raga correctly, in promoting Indian classical music among laymen cannot be thrown away. The present paper analyzes an old and popular playback song based on the raga Bhairavi using a statistical approach, thereby extending our previous work from pure classical music to a semi-classical paradigm. The a...
