The aim of our study is to better understand the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthy lifestyle behaviors and perceived mental and physical health among adults living with NCDs, as compared to people without NCDs. We conducted a cross-sectional study using a global online survey through Qualtrics. Over four months, 3550 participants from 65 countries worldwide responded to the survey. The study included 3079 surveys with no missing data (complete survey responses) that were used for analysis. People with NCDs were more likely to report statistically significant worsening physical health (p = 0.001) and statistically insignificant worsening mental health (p = 0.354) when compared to pre-pandemic levels. They reported lower rates of smoking during the pandemic t...

The American College of Rheumatology guidelines for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee recommended that one treatment option to be considered is the use of intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid for the relief of osteoarthritic pain. Objective: To describe the patient characteristics and the add-on clinical effect of viscosupplementation on physical function, pain and stiffness in patients receiving diacerein for primary knee osteoarthritis. Methods: The study recruited 39 primary osteoarthritis patients suffering from the OA for at least 6 months of which 18 were male and 21female patients age range 40-80 years and classified according to the Kellgren-Lawrence system of Grade 2-3. Motor imagery can be defined as the covert cognitive process of imagining a movement of your own body (-part) without actually moving that body (-part). Aims: Our aim was to investigate whether mirror therapy is effective at short-term (at 4wk) and long-term (at 6month) intervals on motor recovery, spasticity, and hand-related functioning of patients with subacute stroke. Methods and Material: The study recruited 40 patients suffering from sub-acute stroke with a male: female ratio of 27:8 of mean age 48.42years (age range 23-70 years). Mirror therapy was given in OPD setting over 5 weekly doses. Both the mirror group and control group participated in a conventional stroke rehabilitation program, 6 days a week, 2 to 3 hours a day with therapist in hospital and 1 hour at home for 4 weeks and follow-up at 6 months. The conventional program consists of neuro-developmental facilitation techniques, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy (if needed). For the same period, the mirror group received an additional 30 minutes of mirror therapy program per day. Statistical analysis used. Results: The mirror therapy treatment compared to the control group showed significant improvement at 4 weeks re-assessment from baseline assessment on hand functioning in Brunnstorm, Action Research Arm test and Functional Independence Measures. The mirror therapy treatment compared to the control group at 6-months of follow up reassessment from 4 weeks assessment showed moderate but insignificant improvement in the Brunnstorm and Action Research Arm test and significant improvement in Functional Independence Measures. Conclusion: In our group of subacute stroke patients, hand function improved more after mirror therapy in addition to a conventional rehabilitation program compared with a control treatment directly after 4 weeks of treatment and at the 6-month follow-up, whereas mirror therapy does not affect spasticity.

Objective: To find out the relation of Z score of the hip, and femoral neck using dual-energy x ray absorptiometry (DEXA) in healthy postmenopausal women with respect to duration since menopause, duration and type of physical activity and vitamin D3 level. Patients and methods: A 12 months cross sectional study. We screened elderly postmenopausal women (age >50 yrs) without any co-morbidities (subjects N=67) on OPD basis for bone mineral density (using DEXA scan of 3 sites spine, hip and neck of femur and total body). On BMD basis, the subjects were then classified into 2 groups A and B. Group A (N=23) included osteoporotic subjects (BMD T -2.5). Detailed present and past history of diet (calcium content), physical activity levels (using duration and type of activity as per GPPAQ general practice ph...

Prior to COVID-19, the global burden of disease attributable to sedentary behavior disproportionately affected the health of people with disabilities (PWD). This pre-existing gap has only widened during COVID-19 due to limited disability-friendly digital exercise resources. The purpose of this work is to examine this gap in accessibility to digital fitness resources, and re-frame the notion of accessibility to suit the contemporary context. Materials and methods: Using machine learning, video titles/descriptions about home exercise ordered by relevance populated on YouTube between 1 January 2020 and 30 June 2020 were examined. Results: Using the search terms, "home exercise," "home-based exercise," "exercise no equipment," "workout no equipment," "exercise at home," or "at-home exercise," 700 videos ordered by relevance included 28 (4%) that were inclusive of participants with disabilities. Unfortunately, most digital fitness resources are therefore inaccessible to PWD. The global pause the pandemic has induced may be the right moment to construct a comprehensive, indexed digital library of home-based fitness video content for the disabled. There is a further need for more nuanced understandings of accessibility as technological advancements continue. ä IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION Physical activity is incredibly important to the quality of life and health of all people. Physical activity levels, however, remain lower among persons with disabilities. Access to disability-friendly resources remains a challenge and worsened by the circumstances of COVID-19 due to an apparent lack of digital fitness resources for persons with disabilities. A broader and comprehensive definition of accessibility must recognize digital advances and access to physical activity for persons with disabilities must feature digital resources.

Control rats were treated with an equal volume of 2% acacia suspension, and positive control rats with diazepam (2mg/kg). Single treatments of the aqueous/alcoholic extract of Plectranthus amboinicus (250 & 350 mg/kg, i.p.) significantly increased the time-spent and entries into open arms of the EPM, and reduced the timespent and entries into the closed arms versus saline controls (P < 0.05). In the light-dark test, AQPA & ALPA (250 and 350 mg/kg, i.p.) and diazepam (2 mg/kg, i.p.) prolonged the time spent in the light area and entries in to light area. Neither diazepam nor the AQPA & ALPA extract produced any overt behavioral change or motor dysfunction in the EPM and LDT. These results indicate that AQPA & ALPA extract is an effective anxiolytic agent.

They are often detected as incidental findings on imaging studies performed for unrelated pathologies. Estrogens have been shown to exert a protective influence on aortic tissue. Pharmacological agents blocking the actions of estrogens may thus be implicated in causing aortic pathologies. We present the case of an elderly woman with breast carcinoma treated for 18 years with antiestrogen therapy who subsequently developed acute thoracic aortic deterioration (enlargement and wall disruption).
