Super Genius), mulberry (Morus alba Linn cv. Cubana), trichanthera (Trichanthera gigantea) and leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala cv. Peru) foliage meals on ruminal fermentation indicators, the in vitro gas production was measured and the kinetics parameters were estimated according to Gompertz model, the in vitro degradability of the neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and the nitrogen. The biological effect was estimated as the quotient between the value of each indicator when the tannins are inactive and active, expressed as increase percent. A random block design was applied, with four incubations as repelicates and the biological effect of tannins as treatment. At the beginning of fermentation (4h), the trichanthera tannins had little effect on gas production (P leucaena> moringa> mulberry (P <0.001). There was only moderate biological effect on the kinetic parameters for leucae...

Nevertheless, the exchange between these two countries in this segment is practically inexistent. It is found that the infringement of the non-discrimination or equal treatment principle, is one of the obstacles for such situation, taking into account a Canadian perspective. This principle constitutes one of the legal pillars of public procurements within FTAs. This article pretends to explore a field barely studied and to offer outlooks so as to demonstrate why public procurement continues being an area of sheer protectionism and low commercial exchange among commercial partners.

Physicochemical analyses were performed by free chlorine and combined chlorine photometry methods. The results show that free and total chlorine have values below the maximum permissible limits, finding that 66.7% of the sampling points in the district of Pativilca do not comply with the minimum requirement of chlorine given by the General Directorate of Environmental Health of the Ministry of Health. The chemical quality of drinking water in the district of Pativilca, on average, is not within the standards assigned for free chlorine.

A novel surface protein anchoring mechanism in Haloferax volcanii depends upon the peptidase archaeosortaseA (ArtA) processing C-termini of substrates containing C-terminal tripartite structures and anchoring mature substrates to the cell membrane via intercalation of lipid-modified C-terminal amino acid residues. While this membrane protein lacks clear homology to soluble sortase transpeptidases of Gram-positive bacteria, which also process C-termini of substrates whose C-terminal tripartite structures resemble those of ArtA substrates, archaeosortases do contain conserved cysteine, arginine, and arginine/histidine/asparagine residues, reminiscent of His-Cys-Arg residues of sortase catalytic sites. The study presented here shows that ArtAWT-GFP expressed in trans complements ΔartA growth and motility phenotypes, while alani...

The local aquifer is the only source of water supply for Salamanca. The Lerma river receives untreated urban and industrial wastewaters. The Aquifer Vulnerability Index, AVI, is shown to be more sensitive to the fault than to the riverbed.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been implicated in DNA repair pathways through transcriptional responses ... more MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been implicated in DNA repair pathways through transcriptional responses to DNA damaging agents or through predicted miRNA regulation of DNA repair genes. We hypothesized that additional DNA damage regulating miRNAs could be identified by screening a library of 810 miRNA mimetics for the ability to alter cellular sensitivity to ionizing radiation (IR). A prostate cancer Metridia luciferase cell model was applied to examine the effects of individual miRNAs on IR sensitivity. A large percentage of miRNA mimetics were found to increase cellular sensitivity to IR, while a smaller percentage were protective. Two of the most potent IR sensitizing miRNAs, miR-890 and miR-744-3p, significantly delayed IR induced DNA damage repair. Both miRNAs inhibited the expression of multiple components of DNA damage response and DNA repair. miR-890 directly targeted MAD2L2, as well as WEE1 and XPC, where miR-744-3p directly targeted RAD23B. Knock-down of individual miR-890 target...

The superficial external pudendal artery supplies the region encompassing the suprapubic and infraumbilical skin. Thus, a pedicled skin flap based on the superficial external pudendal artery is designed in the suprapubic area and rotated into place for vulvar reconstruction. Because of the thickness and pliability of the flap as well as the inconspicuous donor scar, we believe this method of reconstruction to be superior to skin grafts or bulkier (ie, musculo- and fasciocutaneous) tissue flaps.

Because of these anthropogenic perturbations as well as strong ecological constraints like long summer drought, Mediterranean ecosystems are predicted to be especially responsive to environmental changes. One scenario based on the output from four climate models suggests that temperatures could

As little asa single molecule of DT can result in cell-cycle independent cell death. This profound potency has led to difficulties in the development of DT as a suicide gene in cancer gene therapy, because toxicity appears to be related primarily to the fidelity of basal gene expression and the yield of viral titer. We evaluated the feasibility of prostate-specific DT gene therapy by cloning the catalytic domain (A chain) of DT under the control of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) promoter, the PSA promoter and enhancer, or the cytomegalovirus promoter. The data on expression of DT from the plasmid constructs demonstrate that the basal level of DT gene expression determines the toxicity. To better test the potential therapeutic efficacy of DT suicide gene therapy, we first developed a DT-resistant adenoviral packaging line (293DTR). This allowed us to manufacture a relatively high titer adenoviral vector encoding t...

However, enthusiasm for cancer gene therapy has varied over the years, partly owing to safety concerns after the death of a young volunteer in a clinical trial for a genetic disease. Since this singular tragedy, results from numerous clinical trials over the past 10 years have restored the excellent safety profile of adenoviral vectors. These vectors have been extensively studied in phase I and II trials as intraprostatically administered agents for patients with locally recurrent and high-risk local prostate cancer. Promising therapeutic responses have been reported in several studies with both oncolytic and suicide gene therapy strategies. The additional benefit of combining gene therapy with radiation therapy has also been realized; replicating adenoviruses inhibit DNA repair pathways, resulting in a synergistic sensitization to radiation. Other, nonreplicating suicide gene therapy strategie...
