The increase in Population of the country has led to an increase in the railway traffic which in turn has contributed to an increase in unnatural deaths due to railway mishaps. The incidence of deaths due to Railway accidents constitutes a significant group of transportation related morbidities and mortalities amounting to 7.6% [2008] of all the accidental deaths occurring in the country. In the light of the above, the present study was conducted to assess the impact of the railway traffic accidents occurring in the Khammam region of Andhra pradesh. The present study shows that males were predominantly involved in accidental as well as suicidal railway related deaths. Majority of the victims were in the age group of 30–39 yrs and belonged to Hindu religion. The exact identity in few of the cases could not be made out. The incidence of railway accidents was seen to be more during the day time and occurred usually within town limits. Most of the affected persons died on the spot due to the injuries that they sustained.

Research paper thumbnail of Posterior Urethral Valve Syndrome: An Uncommon Cause of Intrauterine Fetal Death

Journal of Forensic Medicine, 2013

A posterior urethral valve is an obstructing membrane in the posterior part of male urethra leadi... more A posterior urethral valve is an obstructing membrane in the posterior part of male urethra leading to renal failure and death occurring in 1:5000 to 8000 male live births. The incidence of intrauterine deaths related to posterior urethral valve is under reported. The cause for the occurrence is unclear. Posterior Urethral Valve syndrome is a syndrome of obstructive uropathy resulting in hypertrophy of bladder, ureters and dysplasia of the kidneys. Prenatal ultrasonography is a gold standard diagnostic tool. The fetal autopsy conducted over the case presented here demonstrates all the classical findings of the obstructive uropathy (renal dysplasia, hydronephrosis, bladder hypertrophy, hydro ureters). The case reiterates the importance of prenatal ultrasonography and meticulous fetal autopsy to determine the cause of intra uterine fetal death.

All quantum chemical calculations were carried out at level of density functional theory (DFT) with B3LYP function using 6-31G (d, p) basis atomic set. AIM approach has been incorporated for the analysis of various intermolecular interactions. Polarizability and hyperpolarizabilities values have been calculated along with the exploration of nonlinear optical properties of the title compound. DFT computed total first static hyperpolarizability (β 0 = 0.2747×10-30 esu) indicates that title molecule could be an area of interest as an attractive future NLO material. For the analysis of thermal behaviour of title molecule, thermodynamic properties such as heat capacity, entropy and enthalpy change at various temperatures have been calculated. The NBO computations were done for the correlation of possible transitions with the electronic transitions. Electrophilic and nucleophilic regions were identified with the help of MESP plot. Determination of energy gap has been done by using HOMO and LUMO energy values, along with the computation of electronegativity and electrophilicity indices.

This study involved the synthesis of HA nano-rods/whiskers by modifying an existing chemical route for HA synthesis. The nano-rods were characterised for their structure and morphology and subsequently sintered. The mechanical properties of the sintered compacts were also assessed.

Research paper thumbnail of New Finding of Silica-deficient Sapphirine-bearing Granulites from NNE of Suranganar Village, Southern Madurai Block, India

Journal of the Geological Society of India, 2021

This report of sapphirine may not be the first from the Southern Granulite Terrane (SGT) but is essentially from a new locality. The studied metapelites are silica-undersaturated devoid of garnet and the sapphirine symplectites. The symplectites of orthopyroxene + cordierite, orthopyroxene + K-feldspar + cordierite, orthopyroxene + sapphirine + cordierite ± K-feldspar ± biotite, orthopyroxene + biotite + cordierite + K-feldspar are discernible. The textural patterns show partial to complete pseudomorphism of the initially formed orthopyroxene and sapphirine and their succeeding decomposition to present stage. The relative XMg calculated for the key minerals show the trend as: Crd > Spr > Bt > Opx. The pseudosection modelling and the calculated P-T diagram drawn from the average bulk composition of the studied metapelite connote isothermal decompression with peak pressure and temperature conditions stable at ∼10 Kbar and ∼985 °C respectively. The assemblage reported in this study has an important bearing on the crustal evolution of the high-grade metamorphism exhumed from a deeper level of the crust.

There is also considerable interest in nano-particulate systems that attain a lower energy state by self-assembly through favorable and repeated surface interactions as they mimic those commonly found in natural biological systems. This work presents a simple route to first synthesise a highly stable suspension of nano-hydroxyapatite (~40nm) with chitosan and subsequently self-assemble the suspended nano-hydroxyapatite particulates onto a substrate.

Railway related injuries are not those uncommon occurrences in forensic practise. Among the varied presentation of injuries, superficial injuries along with fractures were commonly observed. Proper history taking along with performance of meticulous autopsy following standard protocols is mandatory to resolve the cases associated with railway traffic related deaths. Public awareness linked with strict legislative control is the key for the prevention of railway related injuries and deaths.

Thermal analysis reveals the formation of a hexagonal phase above 670 ∘C. The specific vibration band of hexagonal ferrite was observed in the range 400–600 cm−1. The FE-SEM image shows that the particles are spherical shaped and particle size varied from 37 to 44 nm.
