In other words, saying about an entity that it is liminal does not necessarily explain its behaviour, does not indicate the steps that it might take, or ideas it might develop in a given circumstance; it does, however, help understand what are the different, often contradictory, parts that make up its identity and actions, uncovering the tools, materials, and strategies that an actor can choose from, or develops, in its dealings with others. There is an element of anticipation, rather than prediction connected to it. Liminality is best understood in relation to social structure, which to a certain extent it precedes and conditions.
