Construction site workers who perform manual tasks end up suffering some injuries due to the stra... more Construction site workers who perform manual tasks end up suffering some injuries due to the strains of their routine work. These injuries do not only lead to workers taking some time off work, but eventually lead to long term disability which can affect site productivity. This study was conducted at five residential construction sites conveniently selected within Takoradi to find out the kind of construction tasks that are carried out manually and what effects frequently performing them have had on the site workers in the short and long terms. Data for the study were gathered from existing literature, personal observation and questionnaires. The respondents were artisans and labourers randomly selected from the five sites. From the results obtained, some of the manual activities performed by site workers include using wheelbarrows to carry bags of cement, sand and other loose items; mixing mortar and concrete using shovels, tying of reinforcement bars, block laying as well as excav...
