Single crystals of Li 2B4O7 doped with Mn 2+ (0.014 mol. %) and Li 2B4O7 glasses doped with Mn 2+... more Single crystals of Li 2B4O7 doped with Mn 2+ (0.014 mol. %) and Li 2B4O7 glasses doped with Mn 2+ (0.1 mol. %), have been investigated using EPR method at 9.4 GHz after two years from the growth. In both systems the Mn ion is found enter substantially for the Li + ion as Mn 2+ and/or Mn 1+ , and, probably for the B 3+ ion or interstitial as Mn 3+ . In consequence at least two types of the manganese ions arise in the EPR spectrum in the same range of magnetic field. The EPR spectrum of glass system exhibits three resonance signals, at g~2.00, g~2.68 and g~4,60 and is very similar to others reported for Mn 2+ ions glass systems. The EPR spectrum of Li 2B4O7:Mn crystal reveals only g~2.00 and g~2.89 lines. Annealing in Ar atmosphere does not change the spectrum ( g=1.97(8)) while irradiation with γ-quanta with a dose of 5*10 4 Gy decreases to some extent the intensity of Mn 2+ EPR signal ( g=1.99±0.01) introducing new EPR line ( g=2.14±0.01), giving evidence on formation of other ( Mn ...

Solid solutions of Na (Si Ge )F :Mn and Na (Ge Ti )F :Mn were successfully synthesized to elucidate the behavior of the zero-phonon line (ZPL) in different structures. The ratio between ZPL and the highest emission intensity υ phonon sideband exhibits a strong relationship with luminescent decay rate. First-principles calculations are conducted to model the variation in the structural and electronic properties of the prepared solid solutions as a function of the composition. To compensate for the limitations of the Rietveld refinement, electron paramagnetic resonance and high-resolution steady-state emission spectra are used to confirm the diverse local environment for Mn in the structure. Finally, the spectral luminous efficacy of radiation (LER) is used to reveal the important role of ZPL in practical applications.

The laser output energy in the Nd-doped laser crystals and (gamma) -irradiation is decreased due to passive losses on the laser generation wavelength 1.06 micrometer (reabsorption of the laser radiation by color centers). Influence of UV and gamma radiations on a change of absorption and luminescence spectra of the crystal is also reported. It was stated that the presence of Cr6+ ion is limited by composition of the starting mixture and atmosphere of the melting and that this ion arises as Cr6+O− complex. Investigations of spectroscopic properties of yttrium-aluminum garnet Y3Al5O12 (YAG) doped with C... more Investigations of spectroscopic properties of yttrium-aluminum garnet Y3Al5O12 (YAG) doped with Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb ions and Nd:YAP, Nd:SrLaGa3O7, Nd:SrLaAlO4, Nd:YVO4, Nd:LiYF4, Nd:PbMoO4, Nd:LGS, Nd:GGG, Nd:SVAP monocrystals have been realized. Absorption spectra of the monocrystals in the range 200 nm - 20 micrometer and the luminescence spectra in the range 200 - 800 nm for Pr:YAG, Pr:YAP and Pr:SrLaGa3O7 were determined. Except for Pr:YAG, Sm:YAG, Eu:YAG and Pr,Yb:YAG in all other materials an appearance of strong absorption bands in the range of 780 - 840 nm has been stated that enabled us to carry out an efficiency analysis of selective pumping with the use of GaAlAs laser diodes.

We think they are caused by not only the charge-compensating interstitial F- ions but also substitutional O2-, OH- and Na+ ions which are entered unintentionally. Beside intensity value (it is much higher for g-irradiated crystal and strongly depends on the gamma dose), the UV absorption spectrum of g–rayed CaF2:5 at% Yb3+ crystal is quite similar to that of H2-annealed CaF2:5 at% Yb3+ crystal. They reveal Yb2+ absorption bands observed at 360, 315, 271, 260, 227 and 214 nm, which are called A, B, C, D, F and G bands, respectively. Besides the A-G absorption bands, an additional band is observed at 234 nm in g-irradiated CaF2:30 at% Yb3+. Different structure of UV absorption and emission spectra for g-irradiated crystals with respect to annealed in hydrogen crystals suggests different mechanisms of Yb2+ creating under g-irradiation and an...

The effect of γ-exposure from a 60Co source on the electron spin resonance (ESR), absorption and ... more The effect of γ-exposure from a 60Co source on the electron spin resonance (ESR), absorption and thermoluminescence of BaLaGa3O7 (BLGO) single crystals undoped and doped with Nd− ions was investigated. A radiation defect connected with the shifting of a short-wave absorption edge is described. Obtained results can be explained by an assumption of the following process: Ga3+ ion captures the electron which was knocked out by γ-irradiation from O2− ion and in a consequence Ga2+ paramagnetic centre is formed.

ABSTRACT Comparisons of structural, optical, and magnetic properties between KY(WO4)2 (KYW) powde... more ABSTRACT Comparisons of structural, optical, and magnetic properties between KY(WO4)2 (KYW) powders doped with Gd31 from 0.5 up to 100 mol% and KGd(WO4)2 and KYW single crystals have been made. For this purpose, x-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR), Raman, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were collected. The XRD studies have verified the quality of the synthesis of compounds and have shown the differences in the positions of the diffraction peaks due to the change in concentration of gadolinium ions. Raman and IR spectra confirmed that the phases are isostructural. The optimization of the spin Hamiltonian parameters and EPR data simulation was achieved by using the electron paramagnetic resonance and nuclear magnetic resonance (EPR-NMR) program. Changes in kind of magnetic interactions were found and analyzed from the point of view of their dependence of the compound form (powder, single crystal), temperature, and gadolinium ion concentration. The investigated compounds revealed complex interactions between gadolinium ions both in a type and a strength.
